The Pavilion
Somewhere beyond the rolling hills and meadows lies a beautiful countryside. The ground is carpeted with soft, green grass and decorated with perfume scented and coloured flowers. Near the river, beside the waterfall, lies a huge, Greek-style white walled pavilion. This is the home of Furaha, Orko, Optimus Prime, Hot Shot and Red Alert - and that pavilion is big enough for all of them.
Every day, Furaha, who was a lioness cub, and Orko, who was a Trollan wizard, would spend the morning cuddled up on Optimus’ lap as he gently touched and stroked them. They lazed about, sighing and purring as they felt Optimus’ giant fingers touch their small, delicate bodies. Hot Shot and Red Alert would always be fast asleep at this time, and Optimus would always gently say these words:
“Nature has laiden this paradise on its banquet table, and we are the people who roam it. As long as we have each other, thou shalt be there for one another no matter what. And it is here that we are together as one - my friends…Furaha and Orko. Should you lay down your lives for me, you shall be turned into angels who’ll roam the Heavens. For you’ll be like good children to me, and yet to my kin, you’re still good children.”
Other parts of the day were dedicated to when they woke up from their delicate nap. They would always race around the pavilion playing tag, and they would say a delightful ‘Good Morning’ to Hot Shot and Red Alert. Hot Shot would often compliment them for being so full of energy, while Red Alert would joke that they wouldn’t eat anything should they develop this much excitement. Furaha and Orko would wander outside the pavilion into the far countryside, where they would splash in the river and shower under the waterfall. Red Alert would stay behind and watch while Hot Shot and Optimus splashed freely in the cool, fresh water with their friends. Furaha and Orko would run free in the meadow, rolling down hills and smelling fresh, gentle flowers that grew in the long green grass. Furaha would make flower crowns which took her a few minutes, but she would give one to Optimus and one to Orko. A cry of “Hey! What about me?” would ring out from Hot Shot, so Furaha would make one for him. Furaha, Orko, Optimus and Hot Shot would gaze away up into the sky and watch the clouds slowly float past, their presence causing shapes to form within them. All the time, Furaha would close her eyes and imagine all the wondrous possibilities she’d find if she were an angel in Heaven. She would be the one moulding the clouds into various shapes, and Orko would put them out into the sky so that those cloudgazing could see them properly. On the other side of the valley there was a place where other lion and lioness cubs like to run free and play together. Furaha and Orko were all too happy to agree to what the cubs had on offer. Some of them were playing hide and seek, some were playing tag, and some were just running around tumbling over one another. Furaha and Orko were always the ones who’d enjoy these games more than anything, and when Optimus or Hot Shot joined in, all the cubs would pounce onto them and tackle them to the ground, chasing them until they had them fully pinned, tickling them all over again. Furaha and Orko would enjoy playing with the cubs, as it was a sign that whether youth should run free and stay young, or whether they should grow old and leave the place behind, Furaha and Orko would never grow old there.
On rainy days, everyone would shelter under the pavilion (the lion cubs would go home to their forest habitat), and Furaha and Orko would relax on Optimus’ lap, feeling his fingers stroke them as they purred and sighed softly. The sound of the rain and the heavy breathing of Hot Shot and Red Alert added to the good impression of this being a soothing time for our two friends, because there was never a dull moment, even during soothing times.
When the sun set, Optimus would tuck Furaha and Orko into their soft, cosy little bed big enough for the two of them, and he would lie down beside them, whispering a lullaby to them. Hot Shot and Red Alert would fall asleep with their leader, snug and safe under the shelter of the pavilion, which kept them protected from nature’s forces whether wind, rain or snow.
Someday, all people would live there should the earth experience a massive worldwide drought, and maybe they can see Furaha and Orko too…but don’t worry, it won’t happen for a long time…won’t it?

10 Ideas To Celebrate Puzzle Day
A Brother's Warmth
Our story takes place in a large palace somewhere in a peaceful kingdom. The palace is shaped like a large wild cat, and its mouth provides the doorway and entrance. In it lives a little Trollan wizard called Orko - a little shy on brains, but good with his magic. It is also helpful to his nursemaid sisters and his uncle too. Orko is curious about the world, an adopted wizard who never knew who raised him before, but was happy to have his family with him. His nursemaid sisters are: Waridi, a cream coloured lioness who is kind and generous, Uzuri, a dark yellow lioness who is a wonderful cook and housemaid and often helps out in the palace kitchen, Jani, a white lioness who always provides Orko with comfort and support when things go wrong, and Kahawia, a brown lioness, the youngest, who is eager to be the first in everything. Orko’s uncle too has brown fur and is called Busara, meaning he watches over Orko and his sisters every single day he has the chance. He rules over the kingdom, but he’s not actually a king, leaving the residents to debate by themselves about whether he’s a good king or not. By themselves, they agree that he’s a good king and should be respected more.
Uzuri is Orko’s favourite sister. When she’s not cooking and doing all the chores, she is found playing with Orko or playing hide and seek with him. Orko would try and find Uzuri when it was his turn to find her in his favourite game, and sometimes Uzuri would jump out and pin Orko to the ground, tickling him. Orko would tickle her back. He has developed a lifelong bond with his sister, out of all the sisters he has - and Busara has never felt more proud of them.
One day, as Orko was playing at being a fierce warrior wizard, Uzuri came into his room with exciting news. Orko was shocked - her furry tummy was so big! “Have you taste-tested things too much?” he asked. Uzuri giggled. “No no no, I’m like this because I’m going to have a baby.” Orko was in awe. “A…baby?” he asked softly. “Yes. A baby. You are going to be a big brother!” A smile appeared under Orko’s shadowed face. “A big brother…” he whispered, and gave his sister a gentle hug round the neck. “Promise you’ll be here when the baby arrives?” Uzuri asked. “Yeah, you bet I will.” Orko softly said.
One night, Orko woke to the sounds of Uzuri screaming in pain. He got off the bed and floated to where the screams were coming from. Alongside the screams were worried cries of “You can do it!” and “You’re doing great, Uzuri!” and “Push, push, push!” Orko peered into Busara’s throne room where he usually sat with his nursemaids, and although he wasn’t meant to watch, he saw what was going on and waited for something exciting to happen. At last, Uzuri let out a long, loud scream of pain, and this was followed by someone crying in a high pitched manner. Orko gasped in delight and awe as the royal midwife lifted Uzuri’s healthy new baby out from where she was brought into the world. Delighted cries of “She’s so beautiful!” and “What an angel!” and “Aaaawww, it’s a miracle, well done Uzuri!” were heard over the baby’s cries. Then Busara ran up to Orko. “Orko…” he said. “Why don’t you come and meet your new little sister?” Orko followed his uncle to where Uzuri was holding her new daughter. Everyone was cooing and remarking over how gentle and sweet the new baby was. Orko gently patted Uzuri on the head and whispered, “Is this new baby…my sister?” “Yes. Your sister. She won’t be a nursemaid like us, she’ll be a princess. I think I’ll name her…Furaha.” Remarks of “Of course,” and “That sounds like a nice ring to it,” rose from the nursemaids and Orko’s uncle as Orko got a turn to hold his new baby sister. “Hello, Furaha,” he whispered. Although the baby was covered in red water and cheesy coating from being in the womb, Orko still felt she was the cutest thing he had ever seen. When the baby saw her new brother, she smiled and hugged her. Everyone sighed softly as Uzuri remarked, “Well, I think Orko would make a good big brother. And me? I would make a good mother to the little princess.”
Later, Orko helped his sisters to bathe the newborn baby, while Uzuri got a much needed rest from going into labour, although Orko didn’t realise what that meant yet. While the sisters scrubbed the newborn and made sure no soap got into her delicate little jewellery eyes, Orko used his magic to make bubbles float all around her in the air just for his new sister. Once they got her all dry, they all laughed because Furaha got fluffed up like a shy little dog. Luckily, Orko used a blue, soft bristled brush produced from his sleeve to gently brush Furaha’s fur until it became less smelly and sticky and this time soft, smooth and fragranced just like a field of lavender. The cub had had her bath and emerged pure, sweet and smelling like flowers, not smelly body gunk. Orko took her in his arms and cuddled her. He knew he was going to be the best big brother ever.
And so he did. Uzuri recovered from the trauma of giving birth as soon as Furaha turned three months old. Everyone was so busy looking after little Furaha, even Orko, who loved his sister and Uzuri more than anything else in the world. However, baby Furaha kept crying in the night because she wanted her big brother, so Orko had to sleep with Uzuri. Every morning, they woke to a bright and sunny day. The sun streamed in, almost blinding Uzuri, but Orko would be up and pulling the curtains together. Then Orko would spend a little time in the bedroom with his baby sister. He would tickle her and cuddle her and stroke her as if she were the best baby in the palace. Then, while Uzuri came back to preparing breakfast for everyone, Orko gave the baby a bottle of milk, because she can’t eat solid foods yet. Orko would gently say things like “Does baby want her bottle?” or “Mmmmm, milk, it’s good for you.” Once Furaha had her breakfast, Uzuri helped to burp her. Then Orko, his sister and his baby sister would go off to play. One of Uzuri’s favourite things to do with her baby and Orko is hide under a piece of golden silk. Its soft, rich colours matched the walls and pillars in the palace. Uzuri would throw the silk blanket high into the air and land it on Orko and Furaha, as they hid and giggled cheekily. Uzuri would crawl under the blanket and look around for them, and then, when she saw her brother and her baby, she crawled quickly up to them and cuddle both of them. Some days, they go out and get some fresh air. Their favourite place to be is in the meadow, where Uzuri could relax with Orko would play with Furaha for a while. In this meadow, their bond was almost as strong as Orko’s bond with Uzuri. Orko would spend time cuddling Furaha to his chest, or lying down and holding Furaha up into the sky. They would lie down together and watch the clouds pass by in the sky, forming beautiful shapes at they passed. Sometimes, Orko took Furaha to the stream, where they paddled and splashed and felt the water for minnows, which tickled Furaha’s legs like a thousand little waterproof feathers. Orko would splash Furaha in little splashes, while Furaha would lie in the water with Orko lying head to head with her. Back in the palace, when it was raining, Orko would sit in the throne room with his nursemaids and uncle and spend a quiet moment with his sisters. All the lions’ thrones are like beds for the lions to relax on, and Orko’s throne was right next to Uzuri’s. Lucky little thing, he is. He would stroke and comfort his little sister and tell him stories about whales and elephants and unicorns. Other times, they would look out the window in Orko’s room together with the lights completely low, and Orko would talk with Furaha how lucky he is to have such a lovely sister like her. At dinner, Orko helped Uzuri feed Furaha some porridge, which she enjoyed more than her milk. Although she got milk all over her mouth, Orko used a soft hankie to wipe it all off, and sometimes he would share his food, which is meat served with vegetables, with Uzuri. Uzuri, Orko and the other nursemaids always shared with each other, and Orko shared with his little sister too. When visitors came, Orko would be upstairs in his room playing with or tickling his baby sister, or hiding under the duvet with her. Orko had formed a lifelong bond with her, something he will remember forever. On evenings, Orko would bathe Furaha in the palace baths, and sometimes his sisters would join in too. It was their evening bath, and Orko enjoyed it muchly. He would excitedly hold onto Furaha and lift her up into the waterfall so she’d enjoy her shower, while the other lionesses cleaned and cared for her. Sometimes they added bubbles, which delighted Orko because he would pretend to be a shark coming to eat Furaha, or a fish swimming around her. He and Uzuri would teach little Furaha how to swim, even on their visits to the beach sometimes, because like most babies, Furaha is a natural born swimmer. When everyone was drying themselves, Orko would laugh because Furaha got fluffed up as always, and used a soft bristled brush to make her fur all nice and smooth and soft. Once Orko’s cloak had completely dried, he put on his pink nightgown and tucked himself into bed beside Uzuri and Furaha. Uzuri would read the two a bedtime story about places around their kingdom, folklore and myths, some of which were too scary for Furaha to take in, so Uzuri had to tone it down a bit so she wouldn’t wake up screaming in the night. Then, when Uzuri turned off the light, she, Orko and Furaha slept soundly, knowing that they’ll always be together as a family.
When Furaha turned 2, she developed more mischief than her and her brother Orko put together. She could walk now, because her legs were strong and able, and she could eat solid foods now. Every morning, Furaha would be the first to wake up while Uzuri and Orko were still asleep. She would prowl around the bed just as Busara came to check on his sleeping nieces and nephew, and then…RARRR! She pounced onto her mother and brother, causing Busara to chuckle heartily. After she and Orko brushed their teeth (Orko’s face was in shadow so we don’t see his teeth), they went downstairs to have breakfast. Since Furaha ate solid foods, she ate bacon, eggs and pancakes alongside the rest of the family. The meals were so delicious that she almost forgot about what she had planned for today. But Uzuri didn’t. She played all sorts of games with Orko and Furaha - she played hide and seek and tag with them, and sometimes told them stories. During the hide and seek games, Furaha would always be the first to find her mother and brother. She always found her mother because she saw her tail peeking out from behind the curtains, but finding Orko was a real pickle - especially as he kept moving from hiding place to hiding place! Luckily, Furaha and Uzuri found him together, because Furaha always pounced onto Orko and tickled him. They would then play a game of tag together, with Furaha and Orko chasing after each other all across the palace, past the throne room, through the halls (disrupting the guards) and they would tumble into Orko’s room, laughing loudly. On their trips to the beach, Orko would draw pictures in the sand with his bony fingers and tell Furaha a story based around what he drew. He would lie on the soft sand with Furaha and comfortably gaze up at the sky. He would splash with Furaha in the ocean waves. Sometimes Uzuri joined them, but the two friends were always very careful to not disturb her while she has time to herself. Sometimes, they would go to the cherry blossom orchard and run around trying to catch the petals that fell from the trees. Orko floated so he caught them easily, but Furaha could jump the highest and catch as many petals as she could. “Wheeeeeeeee!!” she would cry as she caught them. Afterwards, they had a rest every time. Orko would cuddle up next to Furaha’s soft golden fur and told her to look around at all the things that nature has to offer that’ll make her calm. He taught her how to smell the sweet scent of the orchard and breathe in the fresh, clean air. They would share in hugs and cuddles together, and Orko would get very sleepy being in nature and being with his little sister. So much so they would go home and snuggle down for a nap, dreaming the sweetest dreams. In evenings, Furaha was finally allowed to eat meat and vegetables like the rest of her family, and Orko would sometimes feed her some of his dinner. Furaha never once complained or threw a hissy fit, because of how happy she felt eating such delicacies. Due to Furaha’s mischievousness, at bathtime, Furaha would begin splashing her big brother and swimming after him in the palace baths, sometimes showering under the waterfall with him or playing under her mother Uzuri’s warm embrace. Uzuri would swoop her up in a hug, and she would cuddle Orko too, even though his velvety cloak was remarkably wet. At bedtime, Furaha would be bouncing on Uzuri’s bed, and Orko would calm her down by gently rocking her to sleep and singing her a lullaby. Then Uzuri, her brother and her daughter would comfortably fall asleep amongst the soft sheets, knowing they are all safe and out of harm’s way.
When Furaha turned 6, she was still more of a princess than ever, but with an endless bundle of energy. When she woke up first thing in the morning, she would pull Orko’s ears and tell him to wake up. She would then pounce onto her mother, and she would wake first, then Orko. At breakfast, Furaha told Orko and his sisters about what she was going to plan for the day ahead. She was quite a bit of a chatterbox, especially according to Uzuri. Furaha and Orko would spend days haring around the hallways and throne room in a game of tag, or trying to find one another in a game of hide and seek. No matter what game they would play, it would always end up with Furaha playfully wrestling with Orko and lots of hugs, as you do. They still went to the beach, the blossom orchard and the meadow, but Furaha could run free with her brother. The first time she ran free in the meadow, she made a flock of birds scatter, and she followed them all the way to the edge of a cliff. From that moment on, one moment bugged her…did she really have to leave the place like all the birds she encountered someday? She walked away, worrying Orko and Uzuri more than anything else.
When they got back to the palace, Furaha sat in the throne room and cried. Orko and Uzuri went up to her. “What’s wrong?” Orko asked. “I’m worried I might have to leave you someday and run this kingdom on my own…as queen.” said Furaha. “You will have to someday, because you are a princess. But no matter what happens, Orko and I still love you like a family.” “Really?” asked Furaha. “Yeah. We’ve loved you since you were a baby, and should we be gone, you will carry on from us in a legacy that can’t be forgotten. Remember, we’ll always be there for you.” Furaha threw her arms round her mother’s neck and hugged her tight. Orko hugged her too, and Furaha was moved to tears by that conversation.
Later, when Furaha managed to stop crying, she joined the family for dinner. She was finally able to crack jokes and make everyone at the dinner table laugh, including Orko, who loved it when Furaha made everyone laugh. During their nightly bath, Furaha and Orko splashed each other while Uzuri looked on proudly, and sometimes they lay down in the water and looked up at the golden trimmed ceiling. Furaha was finally allowed to sleep with Orko in his own big bed, and as they did, Uzuri came in and whispered into her ear:
“You will always be my beautiful little princess…forever.”

And that’s why I’m relying on you to help me. It’s because we’re friends, and friends stick together, no matter how bad things get. I’m trying very hard to control myself at the moment, and this morning I just missed Precious Time. Oh why has thy sleep forsaken me? Anyway, also on my gurn rock list is loud noises, and just so you know, last year there was a screaming kid who was out all Summer, and she or he got ON! MY! NERVES! So since you survived and went onto iPlayer, I have to tell you that CBBC is airing shows from BBC One and CBeebies now, making this and CBeebies family channels instead of channels that parents and kids can watch together. We’re campaigning together to end this nonsense and bring the spirit of the British back to where it was rooted before - y’know, with shows like The Herbs with Parsley The Lion and Andy Pandy and Teletubbies and what have you. We’ll do it together, I promise. And while we’re at it, I just want to say that you’re the best friends I have ever met. See you, soul siblings.

Comfort: A Postcard To Orko
Dear Orko,
My parents and I went for an afternoon walk in the forest, and I was so delighted you came with us. You are fond of nature like I am after all, and we were burning off some energy the only way we knew how….until my side started hurting. It was from all that exercise I had, so we had a rest and then went home. I had my head on your side, and I felt really sleepy. Ua carried me all the way home for a nap, and that helped my side really well. You told me that the pain is actually a walrus which got stuck in my body while I was out walking in the Arctic. Oh you do have the imagination, Orko, you cheeky one! I kept having that same dream that I was snuggled up next to you like those dinosaurs in the ice forest on a leafy nest, and this time my side healed. Being in this place makes me feel happy and content with you, and of course I feel safe with you around. You have a cheeky and childish sense of humor, and you always make me laugh no matter how sad some days get. When I feel sleepy, you always rock me to sleep gently and softly or comfort me with a story and a song. When I feel sad, you always perform some magic to make me laugh again. And when I feel happy, you do too. We feel for each other, and when I snuggle into your cloak, it feels all warm and velvety and cosy. The golden trimming on your cloak does itch a little, but you always scratch my itches for me, because your fingers are long and bony. My family and I understand you need food and sleep, as your ‘friends’ in Eternia never let you eat or sleep or do whatever you fancy. With us, you have a family, Orko. You are part of my family now. Not He Man’s family, but your new, loving, caring family. You are my brother, Orko, and I love you so much.

Once upon a time, in a Crystal Palace far far away, there lived a wizard prince named Orko. He provided everything for himself, because he lived on his own. He used his magic to do all the cooking, cleaning and household chores, and yet he still had time to relax. However, one thing bugged him more than anything else: he was very lonely. He wished he had someone to keep him company or be his friend, because ever since his parents died, he had been wishing someone would live with him in his grand castle. One day, however, his wish came true.
Orko was sitting on his crystal throne, feeling very bored and lonely, when all of a sudden he heard three loud bangs on the grand castle door. Orko floated all the way downstairs. When he answered the door, he was surprised to discover a straw Moses basket carrying someone crying inside. A baby! Orko leaned forward to take a closer look, and gasped gently in shock. It was a baby lioness cub, with beautiful golden fur. Orko grabbed the basket and carried it back into the castle, not forgetting to shut the door using his magic of course.
Orko floated all the way upstairs carrying the basket bundle in his arms, and brought it to his throne. He gently lifted the baby out of her basket and wrapped her in her soft, baby blue blanket. At once, the baby stopped crying and gazed with her beautiful little eyes at her new caretaker. “Ssssshhhhh…it’s okay. Orko’s here. I’m here to protect you. I’ll be…” Then suddenly, he had an idea. “I know! I’ll be your big brother!” This delighted the baby some more, and she hugged her new brother. “And I’ll name you…Furaha. Furaha! Yeah, that’s a nice name.”
Throughout the next few days, Furaha developed a strong bond with her brother. At the baby stage, she and Orko followed a fun routine which they held every day. Every morning, Furaha crawled all over Orko in his big, soft, silky king sized bed, gently waking him the bright sun shining in tiny spotlights through the crystal walls. After Orko has brushed his teeth, which are covered by his shadowed face, they go downstairs for breakfast. Orko has his porridge, and Furaha has her porridge. Orko feeds Furaha every little morsel, and she never spits it out - she’s never a fussy eater. Sometimes, Orko likes to pretend the spoon is an aeroplane, or a bus, or a taxi going into a tunnel and down the hatch. Furaha loves her porridge, and Orko had boiled it especially in his large black cauldron in the palace kitchen. He is a good cook for a surprisingly small wizard. After breakfast, the two friends head outside for some fresh air. Orko would carry Furaha on his shoulders as he floated across the forest, showing Furaha every falling Autumn leaf, every ladybird crawling on every blade of grass, every beam of sunlight shining through the trees. Orko and Furaha would stop for a rest in the meadow. They would lie in the grass and look up at the beautiful pink and yellow sherbert sky. Orko would produce some bubble mixture from his sleeve and entertain his baby sister by blowing bubbles, some large, some small, into the air. Orko and Furaha would spend ages trying to pop them, and Orko would float around with Furaha on his shoulders trying to catch them, as if they were fairies fluttering in the sunshine. After their time outside, they would go back inside to Orko’s throne room for a rest. Orko would sit on his throne with Furaha on his lap, and he would stroke her while telling stories and singing songs. His voice would be gentle for a squeaky one as he told every tale and sung every ballad. Furaha’s ears would fill like a handbag with tales of pixies, elves, lions and tigers, and songs about horses giving cart rides and frogs hopping on lily pads. Furaha loved these stories, and even as a baby she sampled every one of the morals Orko told her. Not like some certain ones from a certain mythical planet from a certain muscular warrior called ‘He Man’...okay, I’ll stop talking about him. Anyway, Orko had a room where he can relax when he’d done all the work for today. It was full of soft toys, pillows, cushions and blankets. He called it his ‘Relaxation Room’ and, just like a mother leaves her children in front of the TV while she does some household tasks, Orko leaves Furaha to play with all the toys while he went off to do some cleaning around the palace sometimes. When he came back in, they would always play hiding. Furaha would hide from Orko, and he will try to find the young cub. He would hear some giggling and cooing coming from underneath the pile of soft toys. Moving all the toys out of the way, he would be delighted to see his little sister underneath, smiling sweetly at her. He would pick her up and cuddle her gently, saying “You are my beautiful little princess.” Furaha and Orko would spend the rest of the day playing together in the relaxation room. Orko would read Furaha a board book about either numbers, colours, animals or the alphabet when she got too restless, or they would play peekaboo together. As long as Orko had Furaha by her side, nothing seemed impossible.
At dinner, Orko would eat a plateful of roast chicken and vegetables, while Furaha ate a plateful of mashed up spinach. Orko used his imagination to help Furaha see the mashed up spinach as nature’s porridge, which he fed to her with great ease. Furaha loved the spinach as much as she loved the porridge, and sometimes she was given a bite of Orko’s chicken. Orko was very kind to her sister, as any kind wizard should be. Then after dinner, they had a bath together in their beautiful, crystal coloured bathroom. The bath would be filled with silky bubble bath, and both of them would play amongst the bubbles, Orko with his clothes on(!), though he uses his magic to make them waterproof. The bathroom walls were decorated with glow in the dark stars, and along with a usual yellow rubber duck, there were toys of whales, dolphins and boats. Combining his magic with the bubbles, Orko would conjure up illusional images of whales, pirate ships and dolphins for Furaha to see, and sometimes a dolphin would swim past Furaha and tickle her under her chin. When it was time to get dry, Orko would use his magic to change back into his ordinary velvety golden-trimmed cloak and pink scarf as he dried Furaha like he would dry a dog dry after its bath. Sometimes Furaha would get all fluffed up, making Orko giggle. He would get out a soft bristled brush and brush Furaha’s fur so gently, it felt like a fairy had touched her with her soft, silky hands. With her fur sleek and smooth like a China figurine’s skin, Orko would carry her all the way to bed just in time, as the sun went down over the land. Orko would tuck Furaha beside her and read her one final story, mainly a fairy tale, before kissing her goodnight, using his magic to turn out the light and falling asleep in the safe darkness of the palace beside her.
When the toddler years came round, there were no signs of the terrible twos, because Furaha was a happy toddler, and sometimes quite mischievous and cheeky. In the morning, she would wake her big brother up by tickling his tummy, to which he would giggle so loud he would fall right out of bed, only to laugh along with his little sister. Furaha was just learning how to brush her teeth, so after Orko did his in-shadow teeth, he always taught Furaha how to do her teeth. He always sang Furaha a nursery rhyme while she did it to help her with her brushing routine. Then it was time for breakfast. Furaha had already begun to eat solid foods at this stage, so she ate pancakes with eggs and bacon alongside Orko, who would cook them into the shape of a face just for her. “It wants to say hello,” Orko would say as he put Furaha’s plate on the table in front of her. As she ate it, Orko pretended to be dramatic about it, saying in the voice of the face on the plate, “Help me! HELP! I’m being eaten!” And then he would topple over and fall off his chair, pretending to play dead and making his toddler sister laugh. They would still go outside for some fresh air, but this time as Furaha could walk now, they would play hide and seek in the meadow. First it was Orko’s turn to look for Furaha. He counted, and then looked around for his sister. Just as he was about to give up, Furaha leapt out of nowhere and tackled him playfully to the ground. This resulted in a playful tickle fight turned into a tag game, with Orko scooping up Furaha in her arms and tickling her before he fell over into the grass, both of them laughing all over again. Then it was Furaha’s turn to look for Orko, though she could count perfectly when Orko floated away to hide, all the way up to 10.

When Furaha went off to look for Orko, she had no idea he was hiding in the bushes, until she heard him giggling. She became scared at first, until Orko jumped out and called out “BOO!” at her. Furaha squealed, but then she and Orko laughed as the game turned into a fun filled romp along the meadow, with Furaha pouncing onto Orko and playfully tackling him to the ground again. To wind down after all that fun, Orko took Furaha to the stream. It was a quiet, tranquil place where those who were lucky enough to find it were free to dream and explore what their hopes mean. Furaha and Orko would look at their reflections in the water together, and watch them ripple away in the fast moving currant. Orko would then dangle Furaha over the water, and she would splash about delightedly, splashing her brother. Should she keep still, fish would swim all around her hind paws. Orko would sometimes turn his boney fingered blue hand into a fish, and made it swim along beside her and nibbled her in the sides while she giggled so much. He would then call out, “LOOK OUT! SHARK!” and then, instead of screaming and running away, Furaha would run into the river and pretend to fight it off while Orko cheered her on. For a toddler so furry and cuddly, she had strength and cunning. When they got back inside, and when Furaha’s feet were completely dry, they would spend the rest of the day playing together. On rainy and snowy days, they would tuck themselves up under the blankets of the relaxation room, and Furaha would snuggle down to sleep while Orko drank a nice, warm mug of hot cocoa. They would feel soothed as they listened to the rain pitter-patter on the crystal castle walls outside, or the Winter wind howl should it snow. Among all those soft toys, cushions, pillows, duvets and blankets did the young toddler cub feel safe and warm, even with her brother by her side. Once he had finished his cocoa, Orko would comfortably cuddle his sleepy little sister and whisper soft, reassuring words into her little furry ears. On some days, Furaha and Orko would play together with some of Orko’s toys in his bedroom, and they would play hide and seek too, which meant Furaha would always hide under the duvet, with Orko cheekily trying to find her. During evenings, at dinner, they would always have roast chicken and vegetables together. Furaha was old enough to eat Orko’s favourite dinner, and should she eat it all up - and burp after her dinner, just like her brother after he eats - Orko would share a chocolate cake he had baked, with her help of course, with his sister. Sometimes, they would share chocolate chip cookies. After they have eaten the chocolate cake, Furaha would have a chocolatey mess all around her face. “Eeeeewww,” Orko would say, “Have you been eating mud again?” or when Furaha ate all the chocolate chip cookies on her plate, Orko would say, “Let’s see…hmmmm…who’s eaten the cookies, do you think? Mice? Rats? Bears? A certain lion…?” And then he would tickle her, causing her to laugh. After they have eaten, Orko would go into the bathroom and wash Furaha’s face with a soft gentle green washcloth, which he made talk in rhyme like was a puppeteer and use the bubbly lather to wash all the chocolate off Furaha’s little furry face. Next, it was bathtime, and Orko and Furaha would enjoy the bubbles while engaging in a crocodile-duck fight, with Furaha playing the duck and Orko playing the fierce crocodile. Of course, Furaha would always win over Orko, because according to her brother, “Furaha’s strong…but I’m stronger!” After Furaha had gotten dry and had been brushed with the soft-bristled brush, Orko would take Furaha upstairs into a special kind of attic. Its dome roof allowed our two friends to gaze up at the sky, which illuminated the night sky onto them. While Furaha tiredly and quietly looked up at the beautiful sky, Orko would tell her about the planets and Constellations existing above us all in the mysterious sky, which only appeared when all the people of the day were asleep. Furaha would be amazed, as Orko told tales of every Constellation he knew and how they solved each other’s problems to make the world a better place. With all those bedtime stories told, Orko would carry Furaha downstairs to his bedroom, and once again, they would fall asleep safely by each other’s sides.
When Furaha grew into a cub, she had lots of energy, and was a little curious. She still had that cheeky personality and was so mischievous Orko would play along with her. When they woke up every morning, Furaha would pounce onto Orko and tickle him awake, until he finally got all the sleep out of his body and eyes, and took Furaha to brush her teeth. Once they were done, they had the same breakfast Furaha had when she was a toddler, though Furaha could talk well now, because Orko taught her how to speak. She could say please and thank you, she could express herself clearly and she could engage in conversations with her brother. At breakfast, Furaha would stick a piece of bacon out of her mouth and tell Orko it’s her bacon tongue. Then, once she swallowed it, she would tell Orko, “My tongue! I’ve swallowed it!” Orko would spit out his orange juice and find it hilarious, and both of them would laugh so much! They would go outside for some fresh air, and Furaha would run freely in the meadow, with Orko floating after her. Somedays, they would go out onto the beach and relax together. Furaha would scavenge for shells and put her ear to one, just in case she could hear the beautiful sea. She and Orko would splash in the sea together, or roll down the sandy hill, or lie on the sand and gaze at the sky. Away up high, they would see the clouds forming into beautiful shapes, which Orko and Furaha pointed out together. Then they would take a walk along the sand together, Furaha leaving footprints for Orko to follow since he didn’t have legs. Then when they went back inside, they played sliding along the crystal floors of the hallway. The hallway was big and large, almost as large as an elephant who ate too much. Furaha would run across the hallway and spin round until she stopped at the other end, laughing. Orko would have a turn next, and he would collide into Furaha until they crashed into the relaxation room, the cushions and pillows providing a soft landing for them as they laughed over what a great game it was. Then they would go back into the throne room and dance wildly together to some bouncy music. They danced and danced all day, providing great fitness and exercise for them, until they crashed onto the floor, laughing excitedly. At dinner, Furaha was never afraid to share with her brother, and always share her chicken and vegetables with her. “You are a fit and healthy little cub,” Orko would say, as his little sister was an awesome unstoppable little bundle of energy. When they had their bath, Furaha and Orko would splash each other and mould beards and hats out of the soft, silky bubbles, and Orko would mould wonderful shapes out of all the bubbles, such as whales, or dolphins, or tigers, or even grand cruises for posh people. Once Furaha and Orko were dry, they would go outside into the forest at night, and try to catch some fireflies. To Orko, the fireflies represent glowing lights of hope in his heart, and the hope for something out of pure light to happen. Once Furaha catches a firefly, Orko teaches her to let the firefly go and let it fly out into the night sky, in the hope that there will be a day that Orko might have to let go of Furaha…
One night when they went out to catch fireflies, Furaha realised the fireflies were gone. It was too much for her, and she started to cry softly. Orko comforted her, and looked at the tears streaming down her face. “It’s okay,” he said softly, “The fireflies will come back tomorrow night.” “Wh…what if they don’t?” wept Furaha. “Sometimes the light comes, and sometimes the light goes, but that light means more than just someone coming for you. It means I’ll find a family too - and I’ve found one now. You are my family, my everything. The fireflies have granted my deepest wish, and with that wish, their light has gone.” “So…the light goes, when your wish is granted?” “Yes.” said Orko softly, “But no one has given me a far better chance of having fun and looking for adventure than you, Furaha. You’re the best sister I could’ve ever wanted in my life. Ever since I adopted you, you became part of my life. If you still lived with your mother, I would’ve gone looking for a friend. I couldn’t ask for anyone better than you. You are the real light of hope in my life.”

Christmas: A Postcard To Orko
Dear Orko,
I’d never forget that one Christmas. We were all helping to decorate the tree, and I decided to wrap you up in tinsel. Then Rocky, my dog, came along and pulled the tinsel, causing you to spin across the room like my good friend Taz! You felt dizzy after that, but my parents thought it was hilarious. I hope we have more Christmases like this. Which reminds me: I’ve been having the same dream in the last few nights that we’re huddled together in this great big forest, alone. You were snuggled close to my body, and I was happy feeling your warmth on my fur. I’ve seen this once on a programme named Walking With Dinosaurs, and yet huddling together in a warm temperatured forest can help us connect and bond with each other. I remember one time we went camping and we tried to count the stars together. You felt like you wanted to lie down and look at them closely, so I joined you. By the way, this morning I read comics about your adventures on Eternia with your so called ‘friends’, and you were ignored, even when a guy called ‘Man At Arms’ became destructive and violent. I get it, he was more abusive to you than anyone else on your homeland, I’m told, but I heard at a meeting once that Eternia is not safe for you, and that Earth is your proper home. Appreciate that you are able to live a happy life with me, Kiburi, Ua and Rocky under one safe roof. You deserve it, Orko, because you are a gifted and special wizard.

Stars: A Postcard To Orko
Dear Orko,
Thank you for inviting me to come outside onto the beach near my home and look at the stars tonight. We could see lots of Constellations, but I saw you crying. When I asked you what was wrong, you started talking about a guy called He Man and his ‘friends’ who used to abuse you and beat you up. I started crying too, because I didn’t want to see you all beaten and bruised by your so-called ‘friends and enemies’. But then, I kept a stiff upper lip and told you that you are never coming back to see that stupid He Man ever again. Today I helped my parents do some gardening, while you used your magic to make scissors come to life and trim the hedges into different shapes. Pretty great stuff, right? Mmmm, it is. I remember one time I found you washed up on the beach because the crew of the Good Ship Eternia threw you overboard because they hated you. I loved our time there. We scavenged for shells and splashed freely in the water. Then there was another time when we were in Africa, and we met a real baby elephant with a tickly trunk which made us laugh. Kiburi said we were just making up stories - but that’s what we like to do best, you and me, tell stories and act them out through the best part of life - play. You haven’t played since those warlords in Eternia forced you to do all the heavy work. I can see the bruises and scars on your hands now. They will get time to heal. I’ll always be your sister. Forever and always.
