I love the Scooby Doo Spooky DVD Bumper Pack. Why? Because of the movies featured of course, instead of containing fake monsters that the gang unmask with a shocked cry of the prosecutor's name, it contains real, goofy monsters, although the last one, 'Scooby Doo On Zombie Island', does contain gruesome and dark monsters - y'know, zombies - and should be replaced with Scooby Doo & The Reluctant Werewolf. The main reason why I love this collection is because of the first two movies - Scooby Doo & The Goblin King and Scooby Doo & The Ghoul School.
First, Scooby Doo & The Goblin King is such a magical Scooby Doo film - the most magical there is yet, with a world where it's Halloween forever and all kinds of monsters live, despite all the flashing that occurs whenever magic is performed. It's sort of what happens when Scooby and Shaggy mess with the film reel and end up in The Nightmare Before Christmas, but I think of it as a mix of Scooby Doo, Scream Street, Peter Pan and South Park's Imaginationland that'll make you want to shout "Allah!" again and again. In fact, it would be better if Scooby shouted "Allah!" instead of his usual "Scooby Dooby Doo!" catchphrase, but Warner Bros might cut it out to avoid Islamic threats like the South Park creators did when they tried to add (M word) into the show during its Cartoon Wars 2-parter. There's no part of the film I didn't like, and I would really love to go the Halloween Land because it reminds me of - what else - Scream Street.
Finally, Scooby Doo & The Ghoul School is a good one for me because it contains slightly goofier monsters, and Fred, Daphne and Velma aren't seen at all, giving Scooby and Shaggy plenty of time to shine. I especially love all the little monsters that attend the Ghoul School, and it's even mentioned in the Scooby Doo cookbook during a recipe for Swamp Brownie Cocoa. It's sort of like a mix of Scooby Doo, Scream Street, Sweet Valley High, Malory Towers and Little Wolf's Big Book Of Badness, like Scooby and Shaggy have been sent away by their Mystery Inc friends to school until they can behave properly. Scrappy Doo, Scooby's nephew, is included in this and the Boo Brothers, which is also on this collection - while some people hate Scrappy, I think of him as awfully cute. I used to see him a lot on Boomerang as a kid, accompanied by Daphne as well and sometimes Flim-Flam. I've yet to check out the Boo Brothers, but I need to check out Curse Of The 13th Ghost as well, as well as The 13 Ghosts Of Scooby Doo.
I like to compare Scooby Doo films to other content depending on its tone, but Goblin King and Ghoul School take the cake. I also like Reluctant Werewolf and Arabian Nights, but I've yet to check out Boo Brothers if it airs on Boomerang. I should've added this DVD collection to my Christmas list, even though Christmas isn't in October, and I'm glad I did this blog post in October since it's October Dooby Doo on Boomerang!
