Lady Penelope Annual - A Review

Lady Penelope AnnualLady Penelope Annual by Various
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lady Penelope is so glamorous!

Such a nice vintage read, even if you do get a bit disturbed by the offensive jokes in the funny cartoons section of Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet.

The Perils Of Parker is already my favourite - adds a touch of humor to the whole seriousness of action, something no girly action series ever does today.

Totally recommend.

30 (Late) Years Of Fanderson

In 2011, Fanderson hosted a 30th birthday party - complete with a cake! Where's the cake? Unfortunately, some Anderson characters attended too. Let's take a closer look, Bluey's The Sign-style.

I was there when everyone came and attended the party. The group photos were taken first, first of everyone, then of each group of characters, show by show. Then we went to the tent to enjoy some food and drink. Let's just say Yung-Star got drunk on too much of Marina's 'Seaweed Wine'. Lady Penelope was there too, and so was everyone I knew - Parker, Brains, Alan, Tin Tin, Jeff Tracy, Marina, Oink, Titan, Captain Scarlet, plus everyone I knew was there.

Of course, we had to have the cake without ceremony, and everyone had a piece - even Zoonie, who dug into a hunk of the cake! That cake tasted of vanilla and buttercream - yummy! Then all night long we played party games and danced to loud, upbeat music until the next morning, when we were too pooped out to even dance a lot more, and we were all asleep. And Commander Shore? Let's just say that throughout the party he acted as drunk as Uncle Stripe was.

Also on this day, Torchy became best friends with Harold Hare after agreeing to appear in his 'Own Paper'. The Liverpool Echo reported on the forthcoming Terrahawks series, and Fanderson hosted a one day celebration of its own creation...

...THREE YEARS AGO?! Oh god, I - hang on, hang on....sssssshhhhh, I must be very quiet. I mustn't wake everyone up now.

The Rise Of The 100

I gather with Lady Penelope, Parker, Danger Mouse, Penfold, Dougal, Florence, Zebedee and Ermintrude to watch Channel 4's 100 Greatest Cartoons. Among all the strange and weird cartoons featured are Danger Mouse and The Magic Roundabout, so Danger Mouse puts his thinking cap on to find out why - with Penfold's help of course.

Welcome To Lunar's Neighbourhood - Part 1

One fine Summer’s day, Parker drove me and Lady Penelope into the village of Devon so I could go on a playdate with my friend Lunar. However, I was very keen to know why Lunar lived in the country. “Will Lunar’s neighbourhood have many fun places to explore, mummy?” I asked my mum, Lady Penelope. “Well, darling, there are many fun surprises to be found in a neighbourhood. Wherever you look, there’s a new opportunity to take in, and a new surprise to find.”

At last, we reached Lunar’s cottage. “Now you be good for his two mums, okay?” said Lady Penelope. I nodded. Then I heard a voice call my name.

A Day With Parker

When Lady Penelope falls ill with a cold, I spend the day with Parker instead. While he does homeschooling duties in a rather weird way compared to how 'er ladyship does it, we still have fun sharing cookies, tickling each other and sharing in a beautiful grandfather-granddaughter like relationship.

'Er Ladyship's Robe

It is early one Winter morning. I am far too tired to wake up, but I do anyway, and I put on Lady Penelope's soft pink robe. It's so cuddly, I lie back on 'er ladyship's favourite armchair, all cosy and warm. Then, Parker arrives and starts to tickle me. As he tickles my bare feet, I laugh loudly. I fall onto the floor in a heap, laughing loudly, then Penelope comes in and swoops me up in a big, warm loving hug. Still giggling, I hug back.

Fab-1 Breaks Down

Oh no! On one of our weekly drives into town, Fab-1 breaks down. I ne'er panic while Parker calls the garage. When the garage truck finally arrives, I am given a ride to the garage, the smell of petrol smoke and the sound of rock music filling the atmosphere. After waiting at the bus stop after Fab-1 is put into service, who should turn up but Lt. Brogan, Jack Haldane and best of all, Slomo, who offer to take us home in the Space Cruiser. Delighted, I chat with Slomo all the way home.

Just Us Three

The quiet moments mean the most. Just the three of us—me, my mother Lady Penelope, and Parker, my gentle carer. Her arms, his voice, our laughter. A love that needs no words, only presence.

Lady Penelope Learns Hakuna Matata

It was a fine weekend afternoon at Creighton-Ward Mansion, and the chandeliers sparkled with anticipation. Lady Penelope had invited some friends over for tea, and I was already dressed in my best satin purple dress. Penelope smiled at me approvingly and said, “Now stay your best for our guests, darling. We must always make a good impression.”

Everything was set: the table was laid with finger sandwiches, delicate cakes, and a fresh pot of Earl Grey. The air was calm—until it wasn’t.

The doorbell rang, and Parker, ever the gentleman, answered it with his usual grace. But the moment the guests stepped in, both Penelope and I stared. There, standing on the marble floor, were none other than Timon and Pumbaa. Yes—that Timon and Pumbaa. One small meerkat in a floral shirt, the other a hefty warthog with a leaf on his head. They tracked a trail of muddy pawprints onto the pristine carpet.

Penelope blinked. “False alarm! You can come down now!” she called out to the kitchen staff, waving them off with a strained smile.

Nonetheless, she composed herself and welcomed the pair inside. “Would you care to wash your hands before tea?” she asked with forced politeness. Timon and Pumbaa grinned at each other and, to her horror, dashed into the garden, rolled around in the mud, and declared themselves clean as whistles. “Mud gets the job done,” Timon added cheerily.

At tea, the chaos truly began. I offered them the cucumber sandwiches, but instead of nibbling daintily, they popped open a wriggling jar of grubs and proceeded to stuff the sandwiches and cakes with them.

I couldn’t help myself—I giggled. Timon balanced a grub on the tip of a cake and offered it to Pumbaa like it was a truffle. Penelope, on the other hand, didn’t laugh. She looked faintly green. “That is not how one enjoys a tea cake,” she muttered.

Timon leaned back and shrugged. “Hey, lady, we’re just living the Hakuna Matata way.”

“Hakuna… what?” Penelope asked.

“No worries!” Pumbaa declared. “It’s our motto. Means you don’t sweat the small stuff. You live a little. You try new things.”

Timon pushed a grub cake toward Penelope. “Go on, Lady P. Be wild.”

To my absolute surprise, Penelope raised an eyebrow, took a small, dignified bite—and chewed. “Slimy,” she said, pausing. Then her lips curled into a grin. “Yet satisfying.”

“Yesss!” I cheered, leaping up and hugging her around the waist. “You can do anything if you put your mind to it!” I turned to Timon and Pumbaa. “Thanks for teaching her a new way of life!”

Just then, Parker entered the room with a slight frown. “Milady, I heard a commot—” He paused mid-sentence at the sight of grubs, mud, and chaos. We all turned to him.

“Go on, Parker,” said Timon, nudging a grub sandwich forward. “Be a sport.”

He adjusted his gloves, took the sandwich with delicate fingers, and bit. We all held our breath. He chewed slowly, then gave a gentlemanly nod. “‘Akuna Matata’ indeed.”

We burst into laughter. The rest of the afternoon was like a dream—mud rolling in the garden, messy painting on the walls, and dancing wildly around the drawing room to jungle beats blasted from the sound system. Penelope, Parker, Timon, Pumbaa, and I—completely wild and worry-free.

As the sun began to set and golden light filled the windows, we collapsed on the rug, covered in mud and giggles. Just then, Simba appeared at the door. “There you two are,” he said, eyeing Timon and Pumbaa. “What happened?”

Timon rolled over on his back. “We just had fun,” he murmured before promptly passing out in a pile of paint and pawprints.

Simba sighed and gently began dragging them away.

As the door closed, Penelope turned to me with a smile. “Come along, darling. Bath time. We’ve both had quite the muddy adventure.”

She led me upstairs, hand in hand, and I knew then that Lady Penelope had truly learned what it meant to live a little—and to embrace Hakuna Matata.

Sleepover Blues

Lady Penelope adjusted the folds of her silken robe as she looked down at me, curled up at the foot of the Chesterfield in her hotel suite. The lights of Demeter City glowed softly through the window, casting pastel blues and purples across the room. I was completely knackered, my hair tousled, my eyes half-shut, and my little limbs draped across the carpet like I’d melted.

“Darling, you look utterly worn out,” she said, brushing a strand of hair from my cheek. “Did you sleep at all during your little adventure?”

I gave a sleepy sigh and murmured, “Sort of. But I had the best time with Slomo…”

And just like that, the memory of our whirlwind sleepover began to bubble up in my tired little brain…

The night before, Slomo had invited me to stay at a hotel in Demeter City—an old retro-futuristic place with smooth curves, glowing floor panels, and a rooftop hot tub that overlooked the twinkling skyline. Slomo and I had stepped into the hot tub together just as the stars came out, the bubbles fizzing around us like we were inside a great big soda bottle.

I leaned against his cool metallic frame, giggling as he gently extended one of his robot arms to mimic a splash. He wasn’t built for water, but he had waterproofed himself just for tonight. We cuddled up close, sharing sleepy stories and warm snuggles, the kind only siblings can give.

Slomo had a way of whirring softly, like a lullaby, and when he tilted his head, I couldn’t help but laugh. “You're the comfiest robot in the whole galaxy,” I whispered, resting my head on his shoulder.

The next morning, all dewy with dreams and warm towels, we wandered down to a nearby coffee shop for something to perk us up. It was bustling, full of aliens and humans ordering double-caffeinated glopachinos and buttery croissant clones. Slomo blinked at the menu, then blinked at me.

“You smell like a hot tub,” he said.

“You smell like warm toast,” I replied.

Just as we settled down with our drinks, the music changed. A DJ in the corner slid on some visors and raised the volume—an all-night rager was revving up.

“Should we?” Slomo asked, flicking his LED eyebrows suggestively.

“I think we must,” I said, standing on my tiptoes to hold his metallic hand.

And off we went.

The rager was wild. A full-blown neon-lit alien dance party. Creatures from every quadrant danced like their limbs were made of jelly. I drank something fizzy and bright green that made my feet tingle. Slomo had four cans of Coke Zero wired into his frame and spun in circles so fast he became a disco ball.

We danced like nobody was watching—because by 4am, nobody was. They were all asleep. Passed out across beanbags, under tables, and in booths with spilled chips and blinking glowsticks. I blinked at Slomo, who blinked back.

“We should probably get back,” I mumbled, feeling the world wobble slightly.

We stumbled outside, tipsy and giggly, and found a hovercar parked just off the curb with the keys still humming.

“Slomo, that car’s winking at us.”

“I believe it wants to go home,” he said.

And so we stole it. Giggling the whole way, we somehow made it back to the hotel without crashing, getting caught, or even dropping our half-eaten bag of cheesy noodles. Slomo parked it in a flowerbed and saluted.

That night, back in the rooftop hot tub, we didn’t say much. Just floated in the warm fizz, sharing popcorn and more Coke Zero. We watched the stars, counted blinking satellites, and traded lazy tickles and gentle cuddles under the city sky.

“You’re like my space brother,” I whispered.

“And you are my sleepy human bean,” Slomo replied with a tiny beep.

Back in our hotel room, the bed was soft and downy, like sleeping inside a cloud with arms. Slomo nestled beside me, clicking his sleepy circuits into snooze mode. We snuggled close under the blanket, heads tucked together. He tickled my back gently with a robotic finger. I curled up tighter and whispered, “Don’t ever let the night end.”

He replied with a soft, robotic hum: “Then let’s stay in the dream a little longer.”

But morning came anyway. I woke up feeling blue. Something tight and sad bubbled up in my chest. Maybe it was leaving, maybe it was too much fizzy drink, or maybe I just missed home.

Slomo noticed right away. He tucked me under his arm and whispered, “Hey, you’re safe. You’re with me. You’re loved.”

I nodded slowly. “Can we go tell Podley and the others? I just want them to know…”

So we made our way to the 88th Precinct. Podley raised an eyebrow when he saw us. Romek and Orrin perked up. I tried to tell them everything—about the dance, the stars, the cuddles, the silly things, the hovercar. But halfway through, I just… collapsed.

Swoosh. Out cold.

Back in the present, Lady Penelope gently scooped me up into her arms. My face nuzzled against her satin shoulder as she carried me toward the suite bedroom.

Slomo wheeled into the room, where Parker was polishing his shoes. The old butler blinked in mild surprise.

“I say… he looks completely spent.”

Slomo nodded. “She partied harder than most kids I’ve met.”

“But she’s a good one,” Lady Penelope whispered. “She’s got heart.”

Slomo's eyes dimmed gently, like a lamp being turned low. “She always had the biggest one.”

And with that, she tucked me into bed—soft, warm, and finally still—while Slomo powered down beside me, guarding my dreams like the sibling I never knew I needed.

The End.
