Why, Brains, WHY?! - A Comic Strip

PANEL 1:

INT. GREEN AND BROWN LIVING ROOM - EVENING.

Darkened, yet cosy and inviting. I enter through the door, yawning.

SYBIL

Oh boy, what a day.

PANEL 2:

I hang my coat up on the doorhanger…

PANEL 3:

Then my scarf….

PANEL 3:

INT. GREEN AND BROWN BEDROOM - 6 MINUTES LATER.

I enter wearing cosy pyjamas and slippers, carrying a mug of hot cocoa, but then, something stops me dead in my tracks.

PANEL 4:

Brains is sitting on the soft, cosy bed, crying. His glasses are thrown onto the floor, and his soft wolf toy Grey Brother is sprawled out onto the bed. He is wearing some fluffy white bunny pyjamas and has a pair of Pinkie Pie slippers.

BRAINS

W-Why do I always have to get attention? What about Alan? A-and Tin Tin, too?!

PANEL 5:

I walk up to the bed…

PANEL 6:

And sit down beside him, placing my arm over his shoulders.

BRAINS

(sobbing)

It’s not fair at all!

SYBIL

(reassuringly)

I know it isn’t, but I was waiting in anticipation for the new Thunderbirds Comic Anthology too. It turned out to be a disappointment. Didn’t it?

PANEL 7.

BRAINS

(sniffing and sobbing in sadness)

It did. I-it did. But don’t be mad at me, Sybil, they only included me in those strips because of the new algorithm rules. Not fair, NOT FAIR!

PANEL 8:

Brains hugs me tight, crying hard into my shoulder. I reassuringly whisper:

SYBIL

(gently)

Shush…..it’s okay, Brains. It’s okay….it’s completely okay. Let it all out, but not too loudly. Tears are the stresses of the day you need to let go of.

BRAINS

(sobs getting quieter)

But….b-but what if I don’t let go of them?

PANEL 9:

SYBIL

(gently concerned)

Shame will wash over you like a blood-soaked sea. You remember when Moses caused the plagues the turned the river red?

BRAINS

(calmer)

Yeah?

PANEL 10:

SYBIL

Well, I think stress is a plague that makes all the rivers, the seas, even the ponds run red. With blood. Blood of the most horrid stresses ever known to man. This comic anthology is one of those stresses.

PANEL 11:

BRAINS

How can you be thinking about blood at a time like this?

SYBIL

It’s a part of us, Brains, it’s not meant for Creepypastas, or horror, but for some strange reason, stress. It causes our blood to boil and make all our water sources the same colour.

PANEL 12:

BRAINS

(gulps)

There’s something you don’t learn every day.

PANEL 13:

SYBIL

(calmly)

Learn? We don’t have to learn. We can tame it.

BRAINS

(confused)

Tame it?

SYBIL

Yes. For you see, blood isn’t just red, it can come in many colours depending on how we feel.

PANEL 14:

AN ORANGE BACKGROUND

Now I am surrounded with splats of different, bright colours of the rainbow -red, yellow, green, blue, pink and purple.

SYBIL

(cont’d)

For example, if our blood turns yellow, we’d be happy. If our blood turns pink, we’d be super excited to the point where we are pleased to have a nice event happen - even if it’s a small one.

PANEL 15:

A BLUE SKY BACKGROUND

I am now standing on a green, grassy hill, underneath all those same colours, this time they have formed into a rainbow.

SYBIL

(cont’d)

And if we feel a lot of joy and happiness in our bodies, we become one big united skin-coloured rainbow!

PANEL 16:

INT. GREEN AND BROWN BEDROOM. NIGHT.

Brains is a bit confused by what I said to him.

BRAINS

Eh? But Sybil…you don’t know any science. All you know is…

SYBIL

Therapy? Ah, yes. There is science. And therapy is science. You were doing therapy all this time and you didn’t even know it.

PANEL 17:

BRAINS

So…when did this happen? Did this happen during the collapse of the New York Tower?

PANEL 18:

SYBIL

Yes.

PANEL 19:

BRAINS

(realising)

And when Tin Tin and I were tortured in the desert by The Hood?

PANEL 20:

SYBIL

Yes!

PANEL 21:

BRAINS

(smiling excitedly)

And…and…and when that nuclear power plant went bananas because of The Hood?

PANEL 22:

I knock Brains onto the floor with a hug. He screams with laughter while I cry out in excitement:

SYBIL

YES! YOU UNDERSTOOD THERAPY ALL ALONG!

PANEL 23:

A FULL PAGE MONTAGE PANEL consists of me and Brains dancing Charlie Brown-&-Snoopy style across the bedroom floor, doing the twist, sometimes the tango.

At one point in the panel, Brains nearly falls out of it, and I have to help him up. We keep dancing, until…

PANEL 24:

We both collapse onto the floor, laughing crazily…

PANEL 25:

And then puffing and panting, both of our breaths getting slower and slower…

PANEL 26:

And then…silence.

PANELS 27-28:

There is silence for a minute. Then, out of the blue:

BRAINS

S-so…I’ve found out that popularity doesn’t just come from me, doesn’t it?

ME

(gently)

Of course not, Brains. Of course not.

PANEL 29:

CLOSE UP - DOOR

A mysterious hand drags the second volume of the Thunderbirds Comic Anthology out of the door, an evil laugh piercing the air. It may be none other than The Hood, but we don’t know this yet….

THE END.
