Happiness Tip #8: Learning With Pi - I Mean, Er, Kipper

Kipper is a teacher and wise mutt of a lot of things that may not be important in other HIT Entertainment shows right now. In Angelina Ballerina for example, Angelina almost always has to do things almost immediately so it's perfect. But from Kipper's perspective, it's completely okay not to. The true balance is in the special connection between either friends, or parents and children.

We Interrupt This Programme For An Urgent News Flash!

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Diana Jones, reporting to you live on the ongoing phenomenon that many are calling a digital detox. Yes, just a few weeks ago, the creator of this blog has been doing all the housework, cooking, cleaning and even the breakfast all by herself.

"This force, dubbed, a Digital Detox and inspired by the very first Angelina Ballerina book, has appeared last Saturday as the blog owner did all the hoovering by herself, cracked how to use the air fryer and helped Mum when she forgot her coffee.

"The current known first appearance of her angelic behaviour was reported to have been from her support worker teaching her about how to do a balance between tech and real life and has since affected her life beautifully.

"Yes, many have tuned into this blog since the initial incident only to see no posts added in the last few weeks, because our blog curator was busy doing other things, including remarkable cooking for lunch and dinner.

"When asked about these strange occurrences, major autism charities all over the world have repeatedly told us that too much screen time can make autistic people overstimulated and anxious and are claiming to be relentlessly encouraging other autistic people like you to turn off all their phones and computers as well - except Mum of course, because we know how she feels about Nana.

"One of their reported attempts at understanding what is happening, and attempting to return to a sense of normalcy, was watching how she cooks, cleans, makes her own decisions and gets subsequent new interests. The results concluded that our blog creator is now into lots of different things besides writing. Give her a big hand, please, in the comments!

"Still so much is known about this detox. The only concrete information we have been given is that any chore or place she agrees to go to because of her detox while other people use their phones a lot, to the point where they become overstimulated and anxious.

"Are supernatural forces truly at work? Or are we witnessing the most elaborate publicity stunt in the history of detoxing? We'll keep you updated in real time as we find out."

10 Ways I Acknowledge My Internal Thoughts Without Fighting Them

  1. "Yeah, yeah, yeah everyone from primary school, I hear you."
  2. "Thanks, Angelina, for making my life as beautiful as it is. My CBT weeks are done, so even though I can't watch you post-CBT, I won't forget you."
  3. "Tiny, Sporty, thank you for being able to help me feel creative and organise problem solving situations like I found out today."
  4. "Thank you, HIT. Your Children's Favourites DVDs were a part of my childhood, especially the Kipper episodes featured."
  5. "Thank you, Disney Videos, for gentle promos that involve the fun bits of the film instead of the harmful ones to appeal to kids."
  6. "Thank you, everyone from secondary school, for making me more than someone who must achieve my dream."
  7. "Winnie The Pooh, I believe you are still stream of conciousness and breathe-worthy to this day. Thanks for making films based on Tigger, Piglet, Roo and Lumpy."
  8. "Tigger, you might inspire me to make my own family tree someday. The biggest ever, I should say."
  9. "Piglet, I think you have secretly inspired me to do my own books, jars, tickets and coupons based on happy memories."
  10. "Thank you, CBBC, for helping me at the beginning and end of my secondary school years. Your shows Strange Hill High and Scream Street were an enormous help and source of comfort to me."

@jackieterrier - Unusual Week

Hi! Jack here! Let me tell you of my most unusual week I had last week.

MONDAY - I was at school playing army with Rusty, when we saw Thunderbirds 1 and 2 fly overhead. Of course, we had to wave, but it's not long before it was actually Alan who was piloting Thunderbird 1 for a change, because Scott was sick.

TUESDAY - I was out shopping with Mum and Lulu, when all of a sudden I saw the Boobahs roaming up and down the aisle. I could've sworn Zing Zing Zingbah knocked down the yogurt aisle, and then said in a low voice, "Oops..."

WEDNESDAY - At school, my beautiful pink and red long eared dog teacher Miss Purpourie, shared with me a secret: she believes in fairies. Loads of 'em. And will you believe it? She has proof! She has a bag full of tiny wands, pinecones and leaves given to her by the fairies as a young girl.

THURSDAY - I got eczema on my nose, so I had to use a special cream. Dad told me that it was due to Angelina spraying red pepper dust on my nose overnight, and now my eyes hurt so much due to an headache caused by the so-called 'Pepper Dust' that I had to be sent home from school to recover.

FRIDAY - I still have eczema on my nose, and looking closer at my bald patch on my snout, I think that little red worm like creatures have made a home on there - and it itches so bad that I feel these 'worms' are biting into my flesh!

SATURDAY - Ah, the weekend. As I sat down on the sofa and watched TV, I could've sworn the characters in my favourite cartoons were talking directly to me. My ears must be playing tricks on me. Or is it real? Ooooooh, spooky....

SUNDAY - I had a nightmare about those ghost engines you saw covered in white toilet paper streamers in the original Thomas model storytelling series. We visited a train station museum and I saw one that looked just like the one in my dream. Lulu and I were so scared we ran for our mother, but then the engine began to sing.

And what song did he sing?

Queen's Rule #4: Children's Favourites

From this day, hence Mattel will re-release classic Children's Favourites DVDs, but with a few things swapped around. Christmas Children's Favourites would leave out Angelina Ballerina, replace her with a Winter-themed episode of Little Bear and change Brambly Hedge's Winter Story to The Secret Staircase. Ultimate Children's Favourites will now replace Angelina Ballerina, Bob The Builder, Rubbadubbers and Pingu with Brambly Hedge, Percy The Park Keeper, Titch and Bertha. Playtime Children's Favourites will replace Bob The Builder, Angelina Ballerina (yeah, that horrible time when Henry was verbally messed up by Angelina during her trip to the fair) and Rubbadubbers (yeah, parents have had it with the whole 'Spin around twice and straighten your stupid tie' thing!) with Little Robots, Fifi & The Flowertots and The Book Of Pooh.

And as for Brightest Children's Favourites? They'll replace all the noisy and overwhelming episodes with quieter episodes with no screaming, shouting or yelling, making it 'Bright & Quiet Children's Favourites'.

HAPPY NOW, ARNOLD?!

3...2...1...PINGU!

It’s hard to picture the sweet world of children’s television devolving into chaos, but today my brain wandered off into a strange and hilarious “what if” scenario: a no-holds-barred brawl between Pingu, Kipper the dog, Angelina Ballerina, Bob the Builder, and Oswald the octopus. For some reason, I couldn’t stop thinking about how that might play out—and somehow, Pingu came out on top.

Let’s start with the obvious: Pingu may be a stop-motion penguin who communicates through honks and squawks, but he’s scrappy. He’s got that unpredictable claymation energy—the kind that could go from giggling to flipping a table in two seconds flat. I picture him waddling into the fight with that signature frown, wings flailing, already making a dramatic scene before anything even begins. He doesn't need to speak words. He just noot-noots like a war cry.

Kipper would probably try to keep things calm at first—he’s such a chilled-out dog. He might suggest they all talk it through or maybe invite everyone to sit under a tree with a picnic. But when it becomes clear that peace isn’t on the table, he might unleash some surprise moves. I imagine Kipper as surprisingly agile, maybe using his tail like a bo staff. Still, he’s not really built for brawling. He’s the kind of fighter who gets punched once, sighs, and goes home to read a book about butterflies.

Angelina Ballerina would be fierce—make no mistake. That mouse knows discipline, balance, and precise movement. She’d pirouette-kick someone across the room without messing up her bun. But I imagine her focusing more on grace than brute force. In a brawl like this, she might hold her own for a while, but eventually the chaos of it all might throw her off. One misstep in a flurry of limbs and tentacles, and she’s out.

Bob the Builder brings tools. That alone should give him an advantage—he’s probably got a wrench tucked somewhere in his belt and might try to restore order through sheer handyman intimidation. But Bob is a builder, not a fighter. I see him trying to hammer out a compromise before getting sucker-punched by Pingu mid-monologue. Justice for Bob? Maybe. But also... hilarious.

Then there’s Oswald. Lovely, polite, kind-hearted Oswald. With eight arms, he could be a force. But would he want to be? I picture him accidentally slapping himself in the face while trying to keep the others apart, apologizing profusely every time someone gets hurt. Poor guy. He’s not a fighter—he’s a hugger. The chaos would overwhelm him. He’d probably retreat into a flower pot and wait for it all to be over.

And that leaves Pingu. The winner. Not because he’s the biggest or the strongest, but because he’s the most unhinged. That little penguin is powered by pure emotional energy. He doesn’t follow logic or rules. One moment he’s flailing like a wind-up toy, the next he’s launching himself off a snow ramp he built out of nowhere. He’s made of clay, for goodness’ sake. You hit him, he just bounces back like a rubber chicken with a vendetta. And let’s not forget the iconic “NOOT NOOT”—a sound that seems to fuel him like a battle cry from the depths of Antarctica. It’s chaos energy turned into momentum.

By the end of it all, I imagine the scene: toys, tools, tufts of mouse fur and octopus limbs scattered around a playroom. Pingu stands victorious, breathing heavily, wings raised like a champion. He noot-noots once, quietly. Not with triumph, but with the solemnity of a penguin who has seen things—done things. He may have won, but at what cost?

I don’t know why this scenario came to mind, but now that it’s there, I can’t unsee it. Pingu, the unlikely champion of a preschool battle royale. The world doesn’t make sense. But somehow, deep down... it does.

Mr Plod Vs Angelina Ballerina

Let’s talk about Toyland justice. Specifically, let’s imagine a very surreal but oddly satisfying scenario: Mr. Plod, ever the stickler for order in Noddy’s Toyland Adventures, finally snaps and arrests… Angelina Ballerina.

Yes, that Angelina Ballerina—the little mouse with big dreams of becoming a ballerina star, but also a tendency to turn into a shrieking diva the moment things don’t go her way. While Angelina is meant to be ambitious and determined, let’s not ignore the other side of her: she’s often bossy, endlessly whiny, and throws theatrical fits if even the tiniest detail isn’t to her liking. If someone so much as looks at her the wrong way in rehearsal, it’s curtains down, tantrum up.

Now imagine this playing out in Toyland. Poor Mr. Plod, who’s had his paws full with harmless mischief from Noddy and Bumpy Dog for decades, sees Angelina march in, bossing the other toys around, dictating how everything should go, and then collapsing into melodrama when she’s asked to share the stage or—heaven forbid—wait her turn. At some point, Mr. Plod would probably lift his little blue helmet, sigh deeply, and say, “That’s quite enough of that, young mouse. You’re disturbing the peace.” Click! The handcuffs come out, and off she goes to the Toyland station.

Now before you call me harsh—this is all tongue-in-cheek. But there’s something worth unpacking here. Angelina Ballerina, while supposedly a role model, doesn’t always show the kindest traits to young viewers. She can be inspiring, yes, but she’s also a bit of a steamroller over her friends. Her “my way or the highway” attitude doesn’t exactly scream teamwork or patience.

Now contrast that with Kipper. Kipper the dog, from the gentle, quietly magical world of his own show, is a breath of fresh air. He’s kind, calm, and curious. He never rushes or demands attention. He helps his friends—Tiger, Pig, Arnold—with understanding and creativity. Kipper doesn’t throw tantrums. He doesn’t hog the spotlight. He just is. Kipper is the embodiment of the kind of energy we could all use more of: gentle, flexible, and joyful in life’s small surprises. No bossing, no whining, no drama—just soft-spoken charm and a warm sense of wonder.

In a perfect Toyland, Kipper would visit and bring a little of that quiet magic with him. Mr. Plod wouldn’t need to keep a watchful eye on him. In fact, I imagine Mr. Plod would sit down for a peaceful cup of tea with Kipper, while Angelina Ballerina cools off in a toy-sized holding cell, rethinking her leadership style.

If there’s a lesson here, it’s this: being loud and assertive isn’t always the same as being a good role model. Sometimes the quietest characters have the biggest impact.

And Mr. Plod? He’s just trying to keep Toyland from turning into a diva-filled dance-off. More power to him.

What do you think—are you Team Kipper too?

Children's Favourites Bumper Special Bath Caddy

What a delightful idea! A bath caddy inspired by Children's Favourites Bumper Special sounds utterly charming and practical. Imagine Bob The Builder cheerfully encouraging little ones to tidy up their bath toys, Kipper bringing a gentle warmth to bath-time, Barney adding joyful splashes of colour, dear Oswald providing calm reassurance, Eric The Elephant with his endearing sweetness, and lovely Angelina dancing gracefully along the edge.

It's both a playful and comforting addition, transforming bath-time into a wonderfully soothing experience. I'm certain it would become a treasured companion for many gentle evenings.
