Please Don't Make Me Cry

Aaaawww, that poor little kid, thought Alan to himself as he lifted the bedcovers over his head.

The poor baby’s had a rough week. She deserves to feel the comfort of my arms - by the way, in the last two days, she hasn’t had sleep inertia for nothing. She’s been whining and moaning about everything as if she’s some skull residing in a big blue blob’s hole.

I was thinking the same thing too, as I cuddled close near Tin Tin’s bare skin. All of us were in bed, in only our knickers and pants, tired out after a long, hard day. I was wondering endlessly about life with Alan and Tin Tin.

All those duties for International Rescue, especially that Sun Probe incident from many moons ago, had made him exhausted. Each so called high stakes ‘mission’ had a strict toll on his muscles, body and mind, and now that he and Tin Tin were living here with me, Parker, my mummy Lady Penelope and of course me, everything is so soothing that for once I could feel a sense of ease in my body.

I too felt so tired - I could tell my eyes were heavier than a 1,000ML boulder on Mars…

No, no. No thinking about Mars now.

Cuddling closer to Tin Tin, I thought about all the good times I spent with her, from dusk to dawn every day and every night.

I thought back to the time when Lil got struck down with the influenza and cannot cook for a week, so Tin Tin had to take over. The result? She cooked one hearty, delicious meal for us all after another each day of that week, even my favourite meal - two cheese filled hamburgers with curly fries, mac n cheese and two Ice Age 3 Frubes. And for dessert, she’d offer me a big slice of chocolate cake with pink icing.

And the way I’d imitate Parker after he burped richly - it was worth imitating him much to everyone else’s amusement.

I thought about another time I spent with Tin Tin, this time when I spent the day shopping with her and Lady Penelope. Toby, Alan’s cheeky labrador, had ripped Parker’s shopping list to shreds, so he had to give in and let me choose.

And when we came back home, we emerged through the door with two giant cuddly teddy bears, 12 boxes of chocolates and a whole pack of 21 crayons. The whole mansion burst into fits of giggles when Lady Penelope told us everything in a flustered, yet always patient way.

But then, a worried look spread all over my face like stinging honey butter.

What about Alan? Those days aren’t almost complete without him. Who else would join me for a hamburger scoffing contest at the dinner table, or to sneak in an extra Super Soaker into the shopping trolley during a trip to Harrod’s? I thought, yes, things were much better with him. Despite bad table manners and making everything fun, things aren’t just as fun without Alan around.

I imagined him on one of his missions in Space in Thunderbird 3, mainly one he had to go on alone, or his time spent on the Space Station in John’s place, and all the time he spent crying thinking about the ones he loved. Tin Tin, Pumbaa, Timon, Lady Penelope, Parker, Toby, Pearl, Pork, Snowy the kitten…and especially me.

So I rolled over to Alan’s side of the bed as lazily as possible, and cuddled his warm skin, leaning close into his ear and whispering softly.

“I love you, daddy. Thanks for making life fun for us.”

But just then, I felt a pair of slender hands touch my bare sides in a soft, kind hug. It was Tin Tin of course, and I felt like life wouldn’t be more fun without the two friends by my side.

Then, the memories started coming back to me - for some reasons, they were of Alan joining all my fun times. He challenged me to a cheeseburger eating contest during the time Lil was sick, and he helped me sneak a few things into the shopping trolley when Tin Tin wasn’t looking.

Giggling softly, I cuddled close to Alan, with Tin Tin right beside me, and fell fast asleep, snuggled warm and tight.

THE END.
