Mummy's Here - Chapter 2: Off To Work, You Two

Soon, the whole family was working really hard at making the room I shared with mummy a lot more comfortable than I imagined. While Lady Penelope stayed to comfort me, the rest of my family got started with their respective tasks.

MAX and Brains were in charge of bringing the spare mattress from the emergency cupboard. The two of them sounded so comical when they tried to do that, feeling a bit like removal men in a silent black and white movie. When Parker saw this, he remarked:

“Ah, just like old times.”

According to mummy, to say the least, Parker spent most of his childhood not only watching Westerns, but also silent movies, which is where he got his sense of humor from. But trust me, his Texan cattle rustler accent can get really really really really really really really really REALLLLLLY annoying at times, even when we pay a visit to Uncle Morton’s farm, where he keeps lots of cows and sheep and pigs and small pets.

If I feel ill from a bad night, just like now, Lady Penelope would tell me that Uncle Morton’s rabbits, rats, mice and guinea pigs would all be waiting for me - including my favourites, Nala, Jessica, Max, Bow Bow and Lola. I would even miss Bonnie and Clyde the goats, even though they constantly fight all the time and butt each others’ heads.

Meanwhile downstairs in the kitchen, Alan was helping Ellie make a sandwich with a baguette and lots of cheese. Whenever some bits of cheese or butter fell of counter, Sherbet talentedly caught them by jumping up and catching some drops of butter or bits of cheese.

“What a clever dog,” smiled Ellie, patting Sherbet’s smooth head.

“A-rorororo,” agreed Sherbet, sounding growly as a lion - and more importantly his stomach.

“He should be used as a hoover,” smiled Alan to my loyal cook and housemaid. “I don’t know where he gets his appetite from - I am as much of a sleeper as I am of an eater, but Sherbie here is more of an eater than a sleeper. Only yesterday before Sybs got ill he wanted to tear a piece of Parker’s trousers off.”

“Oi! I heard that!” a Cockney, deep voice said cheekily from outside the door. It was Parker of course, and Sherbet bounded up to him, knocking him senselessly to the ground. Ellie and Alan laughed as Parker’s face got licked by the small, intelligent dog.

“Bad dog! Bad dog!” yelled Parker has he wiped Sherbet’s slobberiness off his face with his red jumper sleeve.

“But I obviously meant, good dog. Even during the time when Sherbet accidentally licked Sybil’s bottom when she went around without any pyjama bottoms.”

UNFORTUNATELY, I AM ENDING THIS CHAPTER HERE, SO IF YOU TOO ARE FEELING SICK, PLEASE DO NOT READ IF A DOG’S LICKED YOUR BOTTOM WHILE YOUR ARE ILL.

THANK YOU.

-SIGNED, DR LANDAU.
