Marcus is actually Tai's older cousin. Agumon had been sent to live with him when Tai grew up and left him to starve in the streets, but Marcus was so abusive towards Agumon their sibling fights turned to actual violent fights, and so Agumon ran away to search for a new Digidestined after Marcus developed anger management and anxiety.
