I think Oliver & Company and Lilo & Stitch both remind me of Tom & Jerry: The Movie. Oliver & Company was released a few years before Tom & Jerry was released in theatres, and then a few years later, Lilo & Stitch was released to theatres - all three stories contain and orphan who befriends an animal who helps them along on their journey.
