Today was one of those days that reminded me how much joy can be found in the little things. My support worker and I had planned a day out together, and it turned out to be filled with surprises, laughter, and comfort. Sometimes, it's the simple moments that leave the most lasting impressions.
We started our day with a visit to The Storehouse, a place that's always horrible and full of crowds of screaming kids. I was lucky enough to pick up three treats that brought a smile to my face. First, a sweet mug of cocoa that warmed me up from the inside out. There's something about holding a warm mug in your hands that feels like a hug, especially on a day like today. Next was a piece of fudge, rich and smooth, just the right amount of indulgence. The real surprise, though, was the brownie I found—it had an unusual taste that reminded me of fish, alcohol, and raisins all mixed together. It might sound strange, but it made me laugh, and sometimes a good chuckle is the best treat of all.
After our stop at The Storehouse, we headed to Smyths, where my support worker treated me to two wonderful surprises. First, she got me a Barbie Dreamtopia Mermaid doll, which is just as magical as it sounds. The colours and sparkle of the doll reminded me of the endless possibilities of imagination. She also picked up a "Where's Wally?" book for me. I love the challenge of finding Wally in the crowd, and it's something that always brings me a sense of accomplishment when I spot him. Both of these gifts made me feel special, and I'm grateful for the thoughtfulness behind them.
We then decided it was time for a hearty meal, so we ordered a pizza takeaway from Domino's. It was the perfect choice—filling, tasty, and comforting. There's something about the smell of pizza that makes everything feel a little better, and this one hit the spot perfectly.
One of the more unusual parts of the day was waiting in the car while my support worker took her diabetic dog to the vet for treatment. It might sound mundane, but even this moment had its own comfort. I felt at ease knowing the dog was getting the care it needed, and I had a chance to sit back and reflect on how the day had been going so far. Sometimes, it's nice to have a moment of quiet in between the activities.
The day ended with a little adventure. We went to see a huge liner, towering and majestic. It was incredible to be so close to something so grand, and it made me feel small in the best possible way, like I was part of something bigger. As we headed home, the skies decided to open up and it started to rain. My support worker turned to me with a smile and called me 'a bit of a daredevil' just as we were pulling into the driveway. The timing of it made us both burst out laughing. It was the perfect ending to a day full of surprises and warmth.
Looking back, today was filled with moments of comfort, joy, and a few unexpected surprises. It was a reminder that even on the most ordinary days, there's always something special to be found if you know where to look. And I’m grateful to have had my support worker by my side, sharing in the laughter and making sure the day was one to remember.
