Bye Bye Netflix!

Well, after a week and a half of failed tries, it's time to say goodbye to Netflix. You see, it's just not my thing. Everything on there is overwhelming and stupid, and it's all juuuust too emotional. So, it's curtains for Netflix, and I'm just watching things on Amazon Prime and Disney+ right now. And I don't care if Disney goes woke! I'll just whip up some Galaxy hot cocoa and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

2002 Orko's Top 10 Favourite TV Shows

Every time I have a rough day playing on the beach with Furaha and her parents, I like to sit back in the comfy red chair with a few snacks and drinks and settle back to watch my ten favourite programmes. Furaha likes nice, gentle shows, and I like to watch them with her too, but sometimes it's the thought that gets put into the shows I watch. Here are my top ten favourite shows to watch after a long, hard day.
10.Arthur. I know Arthur is meant to be an aardvark, but he's more like a bear in this case. Arthur and his friends learn about different subjects light and heavy, from the school dinner lady being diagnosed with cancer to a fire at the school. I never watch the forever talked about 'Arthur's Big Hit' because I would never punch Furaha in the face.
9.Planet Earth. How relaxing! I love to watch a whole half hour of slow motion scenes of animals and nature while David Attenborough's soothing tones fill my pointy blue ears. It's like a natural, comforting lullaby that'll send me straight off to sleep.
8.Trash Truck. These are the simple adventures of a giant lug of a dump truck, his young friend and his animal friends, consisting of a bear, a raccoon and a mouse. When they play outside near the huge tree they hang around in, it feels like they've been in Africa a long time, and that means Africa is right near their village. Wow, what a coincidence. I hope that everyone doesn't catch malaria.
7.Franklin. I love the shows as well as the specials. The show, which chronicles the adventures of a young turtle learning about growing up and discovering the world, is one I'd watch with Furaha - we are like Franklin and his little sister Harriet most of the time. A brother and sister duo, forever never separated.
6.Tugs. A sister show to Thomas & Friends, this one was made while my first incarnation was still around - the explosions and eerie sounds in some episodes may scare Furaha senseless, but she's always in the living room playing, reading or drawing while I'm watching the show. 'Ghosts' and 'Munitions'? I'd skip these episodes because they gave Furaha nightmares for hours on end.
5.The Trials Of Life. Some scenes in the show are a biiiiit too gross, but it still is relaxing, and some of the baby animals are remarkably cute, especially the baby chimps! Furaha and I like to run around the living room pretending to be monkeys, although I don't let Furaha swing on the overhead lamp because it may anger her parents, then we'll be grounded for life. Oh god...
4.Oddballs. According to the rating for this weird Netflix show, it contains bullying, rude humor and dangerous behaviour, but Furaha and I are always very careful to obey the advice in the warnings. Plus, James shows his bottom from time to time because he doesn't wear any clothes! Furaha often giggles and says, "Poo!" out loud, which is a very rude thing to say.
3.Recess. The adventures of a group of schoolkids who experience the trials of life have warmed my heart and given me a more adventurous spirit since I fell from Eternia down to earth and made myself at home with Furaha and her family. My favourite episode was when T.J. joined the vicious kindergarteners and his friends go looking for him in the woods. Heartwarming stuff...
2.Shaun The Sheep. I love the dialogue free adventures of a group of mischievous sheep and their dog friend who live on a farm and annoy the farmer to bits. It seems a bit British, but I'm at home with it. Plus, it's made by Aardman, so thank Nick Park for making such a wonderful show! It always makes me smile when I'm depressed, in one episode the farmer's substitute steals the animals' food! That's ca-wuel...
1.Transformers Armada. I LOVE this Transformers cartoon, because I'm a huge fan of Optimus Prime in this one. According to Optimus himself, he liked to trace his beginnings to this very Mini Con hunt, when he and Megatron were duking it out over the Mini Cons, who had crash landed on earth millions of years ago. I keep Furaha away from the TV when I watch it, in fears it might make her growl and claw the walls.

Wait a minute, CLAW THE WALLS?!

Run away! No, float! FLOAT!

10 Shows & Movies To Help You Recover From Netflix

Ah, I see you're going to recover from Netflix. Too many emotional and overwhelming/overstimulating shows can lead to crying and what I call 'emotionality'. Just ask the people at Pixar who created Elemental, it happened to be the saddest Pixar movie ever, while the new woke Little Mermaid is similar to Pirates Of The Caribbean. Sure, for Netflix, friends like Mangey Tails, Ork-O, Frizzle, Izzy, Pipp, Walter, Donny and Alpha 9 will always be there for you after you've quit the service, but can you really trust a streaming service that brings you to floods of tears? Not with these top 10 shows and movies!
10.ReBoot (1994). Considered by many the first ever computer-generated show, viewers have followed the adventures of Bob and his computer-dwelling friends ever since they first embraced the screens, helping to fight off the evil Megabyte and his cohorts. Hack and Slash will be so happy to see you!
9.He Man & The Masters Of The Universe (1983). For years, fans of Masters Of The Universe have dwelled in the happy adventures of He Man, Cringer, Man At Arms, Teela and of course the one and only Orko as they battled not only Skeletor and his henchmen, but a variety of other villains too, as they fought to protect Eternia. You will root for Orko - both the '80s and 2002 version.
8.Rex The Runt. Absurd, hilariously funny and sometimes rude and vulgar, Aardman's late night TV series hit BBC 2 in December and would make for a good giggle if you've watched too many sad stuff on Netflix. The adventures of Rex, Wendy, Bad Bob and Vince will be embedded in your memory forever, and Vince's loud outbursts may catch you off guard, but it's still enjoyable.
7.My Little Pony (G3). This light hearted series of films featuring a troop of colourful ponies celebrating the magic of friendship will take the heavy burden of Make Your Mark off your shoulders and just enjoy the antics of Minty and the other delightful residents of Ponyville. There are no villains to overcome whatsoever - no King Sombra, no Opaline, no Discord or Grogar...just sweet, wholesome fun.
6.The Book Of Pooh. Poetic and charming, The Book Of Pooh is a puppet show you'll hold onto forever from childhood onwards. Each of the two segments in each episode contain life lessons that children and parents can take to heart, plus tips on storywriting, like in 'Mr Narrator' when the narrator discovers the story is plotless and rallies the Hundred Acre Wood residents to help him make up a story. Sweet stuff!
5.Strange Hill High. Another puppet series, I became seriously addicted to the show when I was 13 and still enjoy it to this day. The adventures of Mitchell, Becky and Templeton in their inner city school, discovering strange occurrences and sometimes running around panicking and screaming, will make you fall for our heroic trio as they save the school from the weird and absurd.
4.Care Bears: Journey To Joke A Lot. The Care Bears first appeared in CGI in 2004, and this film is to be cherished by loved ones for generations to come. Despite its scary scenes, younger viewers will enjoy the antics of Funshine Bear as he explores the wonderful, fun to discover world of Joke A Lot, and becomes king. Later, he realises that friends are more important than kingship. Dictation lessons, anyone?
3.Kipper. Oh boy, a classic. I've cherished Kipper forever since I was young, and I've indulged in every single storyline in every single episode, from Arnold going to a Candy Mountain to Kipper and Tiger taking a rollercoaster ride to the moon and meeting a fierce dragon. Kipper stimulates the imagination, relaxes you and is the perfect wind down to bed entertainment for you and the kids.
2.The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh. This is the first Disney film I've ever watched, and chronicles several different storylines involving Winnie The Pooh and the other residents of the Hundred Acre Wood. There are lots of little details to point out, especially in the Heffalumps & Woozles sequence where Pooh gets summoned out of a pot by an Arabian Woozle, chased by a giant bee and thrown into the trunk of a cannonball Heffalump. Woah, trippy...
1.Earth Moods. Unlike most Nat Geo docs on Disney+, which are fast paced, flashy and overwhelming, just like Netflix, Earth Moods is wind down heaven. Aerial shots and wide pans of natural atmospheres on our planet, set to different pieces of music that'll have you spellbound for life. There are other wind down series on Disney+ too, such as Ahsoka: Sabine's Loth Cat, Zenimation and Star Wars Galaxy Of Sounds, and for Halloween there's the Haunted Mansion ambience videos, filled with sounds of crows squawking and thunder flashing. Earth Moods is great for chill out time, and all these shows, I hope, will take your mind off of Netflix for good and always.

10 Ideas For When You're Overstimulated From A Bad Night & More Netflix Than You Can Handle

A-ha! I see you're overstimulated after a bad night of crying and watching Netflix. Well, that's going to stop! If you feel like you're a bad storywriter and are trying to think up a plot for your stories, here are 10 things that'll help you have a day off.
10.Don't watch Netflix if you're overstimulated (remember Cocomelon?). Try watching slow paced shows on Amazon Prime and Disney+ instead. Wallace & Gromit, The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, The Book Of Pooh, Zenimation and Earth Moods are all top of my list.
9.Get out a mug of Galaxy hot chocolate and soothe your soul with a sip of gentleness and kindness.
8.Draw a lovely picture with crayons, felt tips and pencils and colour it in.
7.Don't try to plan for tomorrow. Save your plans for tomorrow, and do it tomorrow.
6.Have a little snack at dinner to keep your strength up - whether it's the invincible sausage rolls, a plateful of turkey dinosaurs or a nice recharging slice of buttered toast with some fresh milk. Mmmmmmm!
5.Listen to the music you love, whether it's from Now, Ministry Of Sound or Putumayo. If you're REALLY overstimulated, listen to Latin Dreamland or African Yoga, or ask Z to play you some lullabies.
4.Leave writing and ideas until you find a plot. Remember, no talking about it or else an anvil of bad luck will fall on your head!
3.Take a moment to look out the window. Describe in great detail what you can see, smell, hear and feel no matter which place you're in.
2.Do some doodling. I usually do doodling in my Odd1sOut, Claude or Chris Riddell books. Dog-eared Jamirouquai hats, anyone?

Ork-O

Some of the kids' characters on Netflix are starting to become my absolute favourites. Take Ork-O from the 2021 He Man series for instance. He's a robotic wizard with an excited personality and sometimes depressed attitude who doesn't appear in some episodes of the show, mainly practising magic or wandering caves to see the history of Grayskull, which doesn't appear in the show at all. He Man has become a big muscular Pikachu, while Ork-O is an adorable little robot who just wants a bit of attention. Oi, pssstt, I heard in one episode he brought forth characters from He Man: Revelations (not the real Orko, though he appeared in one episode). Grow up, will ya?!

Anyway, Ork-O first appeared when Duncan found Orko's old memory chip and placed it into a little robot. In an instant, he found clothes and became....DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....ORKO! Whoops, Ork-O.

But the sad news? Poor thing. He just wants a bit of attention. In the series, he tries to help out, but either Adam, Krass, Teela, Duncan or Cringer just tell him to shove off and practise magic someplace else. Actually, in the world of Netflixland in Sybil & Friends, he is ignored a lot and deemed useless. Luckily, he befriended my six year old self and her gang of new friends, and together they battled the evil Mr Warlock and his plans to bring patriarchy to Netflix's gentlest shows. Go Ork-O!

So it isn't much of a sad story anyway, isn't it? This Orko is a lot more friskier and playful than Revelations Orko, who is wise and gentle to my 6 year old self and is the best out of all her Netflix friends. When they play in the Primitive Lands, Ork-O likes to play peekaboo behind Big Tree with Sybil and Mangey Tails - in fact, Mangey Tails and Ork-O get on really well. You can even find the little robot magician asleep on Walter's back, among his glossy black fur, when the gang sleep out in the rough together if time allows it. And they LOVE it.

Ork-O deserves more respect. What do YOU think?

A Doughful Of Love: Save Our Eggs

Eggs. They were the small pink things laid by chickens and sent to dairies around the UK for people to use as breakfast consumption. Whether we want them boiled, fried or use for an egg and spoon race during Sports Day, anything is possible when you use eggs.

One day, Wallace and Gromit were preparing for another day of business in their bakery. “Pass us the eggs and cream for our sticky cakes, Gromit!” called Wallace as Gromit trotted over to the fridge. As soon as he opened the fridge - GASP! He found it empty! “What’s the matter, lad?” asked Wallace as he went to take a look. “Waaaaauuh! No eggs! And no cream either! And I completely forgot our second stock of eggs and cream is supposed to be delivered today at 10 O’Clock. Only, it hasn’t turned up!” Gromit understood how Wallace felt. He had overslept and forgot it was 10 O’clock already, when they should be getting to work. Then Wallace had a brilliant idea. “I know, lad, we’ll go to the farm and get the lot ourselves.”

So that’s what they did. They set off to Bromknuckle Farm in their van to get a new egg supply from the farmer, who offered them 40 dozen eggs and plenty of fresh cream delivered by the cows. However, those ‘cows’ weren’t at all happy with what they saw. Moonie Moo had overheard everything. “Aaaah!” she cried, “Trust that British duo to ruin everything for my business!”

Ginger, the chicken, had overheard everything too. She was angry and frustrated more people are using eggs and cream for baking, so it was time to take action. He called Rocky, Babs, Moonie, Mootilda and Aberdeen Angus into the barn for an emergency meeting.

“My fellow cows and chickens! And…er…rooster, if I may put it. I just found out what they use our produce for!” “Minuscule profits?” asked Babs, engrossed in her knitting as always. “No. Someone who has become famous all around the UK. Someone who has a dog called Gromit. Someone called…” Ginger threw back the piece of paper to reveal a crude drawing of… “Wallace!” Everyone gasped in shock. “Oh my god!” cried Moonie Moo, “That Wallace. He’s the enemy of all cowkind.” “He’s not going down without a fight!” cried Rocky, punching the air with his fists.

“Alright, calm down, I have more to explain.” said Ginger. “Wallace has a dog called Gromit. He’s so intelligent he could give Kipper the dog a run for the money. They set up their bakers’ business in 2009, when Wallace befriended some fat lard called Piella who was a murderer.” Everyone booed as Ginger turned the page to reveal Wallace smashing eggs onto the floor and Gromit putting a bowl of cream over his head. “They destroy our eggs! They whip our cream!” protested Ginger. “As cows and chickens, we can’t, can’t, CAN’T let it happen! Who’s with me?” Everyone stopped booing and began mooing and cheering in response.

Ginger laid a plan sheet on the table and everyone gathered round to look in curiosity. “Now, here’s the plan,” said Ginger, “Moonie, Mootilda, you guys disguise yourselves as an inspector to come check on Wallace and Gromit’s bakery. Rocky, Babs,  we ought to put sacks on our heads, and when Gromit comes out with a batch of eggs, we burst out and nab ‘em. How do you like that?” Everyone gave a thumbs up. “But what if the plan never works?” asked Mootilda. “It will. You’ll see. It’ll either be a dumb plan or a huge success.”

Everyone got ready to catch Wallace and Gromit in the act. First, Ginger searched through the farmer’s daughter’s dress up box when she wasn’t looking and got out some very important clothes for Moonie and Mootilda to wear. Angus offered to stay behind and check on the other cows, which caused Moonie to give him a stern glare. “Okay, so I won’t hit on anyone while you’re gone,” he said. Ginger, Rocky and Babs took three sacks that were meant for chicken feed, cut holes in them for eyes and placed them over their heads. “Everyone ready?” muffled Ginger from in her bag. Everyone nodded. “I’ll explain it again so you guys don’t have to: Moonie, Mootilda, keep Gromit distracted. We’ll deal with the eggs and cream ourselves.”

Walking all the way to the Top Bun Bakery proved to be a leg-hurter, but eventually, everyone made it. Ginger and the other chickens snuck round the back while Moonie and Mootilda, disguised as inspectors, went up to the door and rang the doorbell. Gromit answered. He was shocked to see two people in shadow who ‘claimed’ to be inspectors. “Hello, we’re…er…baking inspectors. We’ve come to see how your business is doing.” “Yes, and we’ve got a clipboard and other…er…nonsense. Let’s check upstairs first.” Moonie and Mootilda lead Gromit upstairs to the bathroom to check if there’s any hair in the plugs.

Meanwhile, Ginger, Rocky and Babs all went through the back of the door and into the bakery. They saw Wallace lay the eggs and a jug of cream on the table to bake the sticky cakes. Wallace felt his tummy rumbling. “Oh!” He looked at the clock, and saw it was 12AM. “Must be time for some cheese.”

“As always,” said Ginger as Wallace headed into the kitchen. “Everyone ready?” “Ready!” said Babs and Rocky at once. “GO!” The chickens rushed towards the table, threw off their sacks and each took the eggs and the cream, racing out of the door in a flash.

Meanwhile, Moonie and Mootilda had tied up Gromit and had placed him in the bath. As they went downstairs and headed out the door, they high-fived each other, totally pleased with themselves. “We did it, Mootilda! Let’s see how the chickens are getting on with the eggs.” cheered Moonie, as the two went outside to join Ginger and her pals.

When Wallace came back from lunch he was shocked to see - OH NO - the cream and eggs gone! “Oh no, the eggs! Where are they? And the cream - oh my goodness, it’s gone too! Gromit, get down here!” But Gromit was tied up and didn’t have any time to respond. Luckily, Wallace looked out the window and saw the chickens and cows running away with the produce.

Wallace was so angry he burst out the door and called, “Come back here with our eggs!” Wallace threw off his apron and hat and ran after the egg thieves. “Uh oh, time to get going,” said Ginger, and off the animals set at top speed. “Oi, come back here!” cried Wallace. The chase was on! Wallace was in hot pursuit! But the chickens and cows were even faster, and couldn’t even get away with anything…until Mootilda collapsed onto the ground. Her black and white cow legs were worn out. “Come on, Mootilda, get up!” “I can’t…go…on…” gasped Mootilda, and she collapsed onto the pavement, her bottom in the air.

The chickens didn’t see Mootilda in the way, and crashed into her. The eggs and cream went flying in all directions! SPLAT! CRACK! SPLOOSH! Eggs and cream went flying everywhere. Wallace wasn’t too pleased with the unwelcome guests. “Ahem. I think you have some explaining to do.” scolded Wallace.

Groaning and covered in egg yolk and cream, the animals turned to face Wallace, who had the strictest look ever. “I’m surprised at you…er…will you tell me your names?” “My name is Ginger, and these are Rocky, Babs, Moonie and Mootilda.” announced Ginger. “Ah. Ginger. I should’ve known.” “Us chickens are against egg production. You’re trying to take our babies away from us.” “And Gromit and I are trying to use your produce to make pastries. We can’t have pastries without eggs and cream!” All the animals were disappointed. Then Moonie spoke. “Wallace, because of my fame, I had produced a Moonie Moo Says Cheese brand made with my own milk. Maybe this could be my own point to prove myself.” “Then so be it,” Wallace suddenly smiled, “Gromit and I will make Chicken Run and Moonie Moo-branded bread and cakes!” Everyone cheered at the fact, and went back to the bakery to get cleaned up.

Three weeks later, Wallace and Gromit had eggs and cream delivered from the dairy company that produced Moonie Moo Says Cheese to make their bread and cakes, while Ginger kept some of the eggs to raise as offspring. As for Moonie Moo, she found Angus hadn’t been laying eyes on lady cows anymore, and sometimes teased him for everything he did to trick her in the past.

Then one day, Moonie Moo was settling down to the annual Barn Breakfast, until she realised there weren’t any eggs to go with her toast soldiers on her plate. “Ginger,” she said, “Can I borrow some of your eggs?”

“Uh oh,” said Ginger.

10 Ideas To Celebrate Cuddle Day

10.Make a 'Cuddle Collage' - a big picture consisting of images printed from the internet or from magazines of people and cartoon characters cuddling.
9.Cuddle your pets - for me, I'd like to cuddle a Mylo!
8.Think of cute couples or best friends from my stories, such as Furaha & Orko, '80s Orko & Cheese or Spike the dragon and Pandy Paws - and draw fanart of them cuddling. If you can't draw fanart, now's the best chance to learn how to draw them!
7.Watch a cuddly family film - The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh and films involving the Care Bears are the options I'd pick.
6.I'm introducing girlfriends into Me, You, And...In Upendi! Think of one couple from the story, such as Furaha & Circuit, Orko & Dree-Elle, Optimus Prime & Ariel, Timon & Shanti (the meerkat, not the girl from The Jungle Book 2) or Pumbaa and Brights Brightly, and draw fanart of them not just cuddling, but doing fun things together.
5.Have a cuddly morning in your softest pyjamas, napping in bed with your favourite stuffed animal beside you.
4.Call someone up and go over to their house to have a cuddle and a smooch with them.
3.Wear your cuddliest clothes all day.
2.Read some storybooks starring cuddly, cute characters.
1.Have a one on one quiet cuddle session with your partner (if you have a partner, that is).
