Decorate a small backpack
Let’s turn an ordinary bag into a treasure chest! Add bright stickers or draw little pictures of a picnic blanket, a ship, and a hot-chocolate mug on the front so Sally can spot it right away.
Pack your own treats & drinks
-
Picnic goodies from ASDA: sandwiches, fruit, crisps—pack them in clear, reusable boxes so you both can see what’s inside without rustling plastic.
-
Hot chocolate in a thermos: pre-make it at home and pour into a leak-proof flask. Now you can enjoy a warm drink at Tomach without queuing in the cafรฉ or battling loud noises.
Add a “Quiet Kit”
-
Noise-canceling headphones or ear-defenders for Sally (and extra little ones for you, too!).
-
Fidget toys or a soft squeeze ball to keep hands busy if things feel noisy outside.
-
Tuck them into a side pocket for quick grabs.
Create a mini picture-schedule
Draw or print small icons on index cards for each stop—๐ ASDA, ๐งบ picnic, ☕ hot-chocolate, ๐ข ship-watching, ๐ Home Bargains outside.
-
Hole-punch and clip them together so you can flip through as you go.
-
Stick a little star or smiley sticker on each card when you finish that part of the adventure!
Plan a “quiet corner” in the car
-
Lay a soft blanket on one side of the back seat and keep the volume low on any music or audiobook.
-
Use this as your go-to spot to chill out between stops, chat with your support worker about what you’ve seen, or just relax.
