I.B.F.Fs & The Rocket

It was one of those days where Zura, Fang and Luna and I felt like doing nothing at all. In fact, we were quite bored. Everyone else had something to do, why couldn’t we pick something exciting to do? All while we were sitting in our bedroom feeling bored, something was being mixed up like a potion inside my head. An idea was forming. I could envision a rocket being launched into the depths of Space. Then it hit me. “I know! Why don’t we do a bottle rocket experiment?” I piped up. “That’s a great idea, Sophie!” said Luna. “All we need is some pencils, tape, vinegar, baking soda and a plastic bottle.” “We have an empty Coke bottle about to go to the waste disposal, maybe we could use that!”

So we collected all the things we needed and dashed outside. We taped the pencils around the bottle and unscrewed the lid. We filled the bottle rocket with baking soda and vinegar, and then ran back. We watched as the bottle rocket soared into the air. We yelled in joy to see it, but next door Nick was outside enjoying the sunshine. The bottle rocket landed with a bonk on his head! “Sorry, Nick!” I called. “We were doing a bottle rocket experiment.” “That’s very nice of you to do that, but would you do it in a place where I don’t want to be disturbed?” asked Nick, “I’ve got a splitting headache.” Returning to the garden, we thought and thought about what to do next. Suddenly, it was Fang’s turn to have an idea. “Let’s launch a rocket for real.” he said.

We got Luna’s toy rocket Sharalanga 21.0, a rope and some matches and went over to the park to test it out. Remember, this is a story, so no one must try this at home. Fang lit the fuse and stood back to watch. We held hands as we watched for the rocket desperately, my teeth biting into my lips hard.
