In today's story, Luke, Resus, Cleo and I go camping near the beach. I've only gotten up to the bit where they go onto the beach and have fun, and while you wait, you and your kids can re-enact out what's to come. First, you can make a blanket fort, or your own homemade tent or tepee, to live beside the beach in. While you can't go to the real beach at the moment due to the cold weather, you can make your own beach small world to play in using sand, shells and water. I'm thinking that sometime in the story, Luke, Resus, Cleo and I play our favourite beach game, 'Sand Zombie', so in addition to playing that using a few blankets, pillows and open spaces, there are heaps of other zombie-themed games for your kids to play even though Halloween has passed. Instead of being 'it' for these games, you can either call yourself 'Doug' or 'Davina' after his girlfriend in the episode 'The Zombie Body Shop', which you can watch on iPlayer. Once you've played all these games, it's time to play in the sea! Obviously, you can't go to the real sea because of the cold weather, so create this lovely ocean themed sensory bin - you can dip your toes or hands into it, no biggie. All these games could make you work up an appetite, so this calls for a beach picnic. There are loads of healthy recipes to help you get started - there are those cute mini sandwich kebabs, a kid-friendly salad, those colourful fruit juice-flavoured ice pops and this creamy orange strawberry juice. Wind down after a long day of play by settling down in your blanket fort and reading a selection of childrens' books about camping. Curious George Goes Camping and Maisy Goes Camping are my personal favourites.
